Each week, On3’s Matt Zenitz selects coordinators of the week from each Power 5 conference as well as two from the Group of 5 ranks.

Here are the On3 coordinators of the week from Week 3.

ACC

Miami DC Kevin Steele
The buzz:
Miami’s loss to Texas A&M wasn’t because of its defense. Steele’s unit held the Aggies to 264 yards and 4-of-12 on third downs during the 17-9 loss. One of A&M’s two touchdowns came on a short field, courtesy of a turnover that gave the Aggies the ball at the Hurricanes’ 28.

Big Ten

Penn State DC Manny Diaz
The buzz: Diaz’s defense had six sacks and four takeaways in Penn State’s 41-12 win over Auburn.

Big 12

Kansas OC Andy Kotelnicki
The buzz:
Led by its offense, Kansas is off to its first 3-0 start since 2009. Kotelnicki’s unit posted six touchdowns during a 48-30 win over Houston. The Jayhawks, ranked third nationally in scoring offense (53 points per game), averaged 6.6 yards per play and were 7-of-7 in the red zone against Houston.

Pac-12

Oregon OC Kenny Dillingham
The buzz: Aided by its offense, Oregon got a huge 41-20 win over then-No. 12 BYU. The Ducks scored five touchdowns and built a 38-7 lead by the midpoint of the third quarter. It came against a BYU defense that limited then-No. 9 Baylor to 289 yards and two touchdowns in a 26-20 overtime victory in Week 2.

SEC

LSU DC Matt House
The buzz:
During a 30-16 LSU win over Mississippi State, House held the Bulldogs to their lowest yardage output since Mike Leach’s first season as coach in 2020 (289 yards). After a Mississippi State touchdown on its first drive, the Tigers allowed just 202 yards and 10 points during the final three-and-a-half quarters. LSU had four sacks, recorded two takeaways and limited the Bulldogs to 3-of-14 on third downs.

Group of 5

Wyoming DC Jay Sawvel
The buzz: Wyoming, a 16.5-point underdog, beat Air Force 17-14 to improve to 3-1. The win, which gave Air Force its first loss since November 6, 2021, was largely thanks to Sawvel’s defense. His unit held the Falcons to their fourth-lowest yardage output since September 2018 (272 yards). Air Force was coming off a 41-10 win over Colorado during which it ran for 435 yards.

Group of 5

Tulane DC Chris Hampton
The buzz:
Hampton’s group held Kansas State to one touchdown and 2-of-15 on third downs during a 17-10 upset of the Wildcats. Tulane shut out Kansas State in the second half.

Of note: Five of the seven coordinators mentioned, all but Hampton and Kotelnicki, are in their first season at their respective schools.
