College Football Playoff: CBS Sports projects 12-team field, full bowl slate after Week 4
On3

Week 10 of the 2025 college football season has come and gone, and the College Football Playoff picture has never been more clear. Many of the top teams continue to separate themselves from the rest of the pack, while others are making their final push for the playoffs.

Some notable outcomes this week include Texas’ win over a top-10 Vanderbilt team at home. Miami’s loss to unranked SMU in overtime, Oklahoma’s win over Tennessee in Neyland Stadium. Not to mention Utah, who hosted ESPN College GameDay, defeated Cincinnati late Saturday night. Additionally, Georgia Tech is no longer undefeated after its loss to NC State.

In turn, CBS Sports has shaken up their predictions for the College Football Playoff. Here are the updated projections, along with a projection list of every bowl game:

College Football Playoff First Round Game #1

No. 12 Memphis at No. 5 Georgia

Georgia has won its last four games after losing its first matchup of the season against Alabama in late September. One of those wins include a top-five Ole Miss squad at home, and the Bulldogs have stacked up the wins ever since.

Memphis is still the favorite out of all the Group of Six teams heading into the final stretch of regular season play. The Tigers are currently 8-1 and have three games left this season — all three of those games are against teams with winning records.

No. 11 Notre Dame at No. 6 Oregon

Notre Dame vs. Oregon would be the marquee matchup in the first round if this projection pans out. Two big-name schools with national championship aspirations — only one would be able to make it to the round of eight.

Oregon was last season’s No. 1 overall seed, but the Ducks lost their first game in the playoffs. Meanwhile, Notre Dame made it out of the first round and all the way to the national championship game.

College Football Playoff First Round Game #3

No. 10 Texas at No. 7 BYU

At one point, Texas dropped out of the AP Poll entirely after losing its second game of the season. They’ve since won their last four games and are coming off a top-10 win at home over Vanderbilt.

BYU has steadily crept up the rankings all season long, and continue to do so as the lone undefeated team left in the Big 12. They’ll take on Texas Tech this weekend to see which team can take the edge as the best in the conference to potentially represent the Big 12 in the CFP.

College Football Playoff First Round Game #4

No. 9 Ole Miss at No. 8 Georgia Tech

Ole Miss improved to 8-1 on Saturday after defeating South Carolina 30-14 during Week 10. The Rebels don’t play another ranked team for the rest of the regular season, so their CFP chances are looking better by the week.

Georgia Tech suffered its first loss of the season to NC State 48-36 on the road on Saturday. Whether it will be able to beat Georgia during the season finale will go a long way in determining where the Yellow Jackets will ultimately be seeded, assuming they’re a part of the ACC title game.

Ohio State vs. TBD

Ohio State remained undefeated after beating Penn State 38-14 during Week 10. A matchup that was once looked at as a matchup with potential College Football Playoff implications, the Buckeyes instead cruised to a victory with relative ease.

The Buckeyes have four games left on their schedule. However, all roads lead to Nov. 29 in Ann Arbor.

CFP Quarterfinal at the Sugar Bowl

Texas A&M vs. TBD

Texas A&M is off to its first 8-0 start since 1992 and are currently the last undefeated team remaining in the SEC. Alabama remains undefeated in SEC play, but the Aggies sit alone atop the overall standings.

The Aggies did not play on Saturday while on their bye. When they return, Texas A&M will have another opportunity to beat a ranked team when they travel to Columbia to take on Missouri.

CFP Quarterfinal at the Orange Bowl

Indiana vs. TBD

Assuming the Hoosiers match up with the Buckeyes in the Big Ten Championship game, that game will likely determine which team gets the No. 1 overall seed in this year’s College Football Playoff. Currently, the Hoosiers are No. 2.

That can always change, but the Hoosiers won’t play another ranked team this regular season. They’re dominating their opposition and have no signs of slowing down.

CFP Quarterfinal at the Cotton Bowl

Alabama vs. TBD

Alabama has turned itself into one of college football’s top contenders after beginning the season with a loss. However, the Crimson Tide have since won seven in a row and are playing as well as any team in the country this season.

If the season ended today, Alabama and Texas A&M would play each other in the 2025 SEC Championship game. Like Indiana and Ohio State — that matchup could very well determine the top overall seed in the College Football Playoffs.
