The Dallas Cowboys are not done building their team ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft. Despite adding former pro bowl receiver Brandin Cooks via a trade with the Houston Texans, the Cowboys are still looking to bolster the wide receiver stable. Which is why they recently brought in the former first round pick of the Minnesota Vikings, Laquon Treadwell.

According to ESPN’s NFL expert Field Yates, on Friday, Dallas brought the former Ole Miss standout to the Lone Star State to work out for the team, hoping to secure his services for next season.

At the collegiate level, Treadwell was a problem for opposing SEC defenses to deal with. With the Rebels, he would set and break a handful of school records, including finishing his three-year career as the school’s all-time leading pass catcher with 202 career receptions.

During his time at Ole Miss, Treadwell amassed 2,393 yards on his 202 receptions with 21 receiving touchdowns and, surprisingly, 153 passing yards and one passing touchdown. Treadwell’s big playability and pass-catching skills earned him first-team all-SEC honors in his last season at Ole Miss. And that was more than enough for the Vikings to select him with pick No 23 in the 2016 NFL draft.

Unfortunately, his level of dominance in the NFL pales in comparison to what he did in college. Treadwell, who is now entering his eighth NFL season, has spent time with six NFL franchises on both active and practice squad rosters. His longest tenure is with the team that drafted him, Minnesota, where he spent four seasons.

In his previous seven seasons, Treadwell has recorded 110 receptions for 1226 yards and five touchdowns. His season high in catches sits at 53, which came in his third year in Minnesota. And he has yet to have a season with more than 500 receiving yards or more than two touchdowns. However, with Treadwell possibly heading to one of the league’s best offenses, that could all change for him.

Having a quarterback such as Dak Prescott leading an offense of which he has been a part is something that has eluded him in his professional career. But if his workout with Dallas is successful and he earns a contract, it could be just what he needs and what the Cowboys see. Only time will tell whether or not the workout was successful, and he finds a home in Dallas for the 2023 season.
