Columbus (Ohio) Africentric Early College junior Dailyn Swain was one of the players I was most intrigued to watch coming into the Flyin’ to the Hoop event. At 6-foot-7, Swain is an unselfish wing who initiates offense and shows natural floor vision. He finished with 19 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and two blocks.

“I am a big guard, a leader for my team,” Swain told On3. “I feel I can do anything on the floor, facilitate, score, get my teammates involved. I’ve improved my shooting and gotten stronger. I’m able to play through the contact, being able to fight through the contact and still make the passes and get buckets.

“I watch a lot of Kevin Durant because he is a leader, but he can also score, facilitate, and no one can guard him.”

Swain’s Recruitment

After his summer with Nike’s All Ohio program, college coaches started to take notice of Swain’s abilities as well. Swain lists over ten offers to his name, and he has made an early effort to see a couple.

“I feel like I hear from all my offers a good amount. Because the season has picked up, recruitment has slowed down some, but I hear from them all a good bit. I visited Ohio State and Cincinnati and I want to set up a visit with Virginia Tech. They recently offered me, and I want to see what that campus is like and what that atmosphere is like.”

Dailyn Swain breaks it down

Ohio State: “They showed me they could beat any team in the country; they beat Duke, who was No. 1 at the time. They showed how they stay together and are really good with game plans. Their players are coachable and when they follow the game plan from the coaches, they can play with anyone.

“They feel like I can play any position on the floor and guard the one through four. The coaches really like my versatility.”

Cincinnati: “I learned the coaches are really in tune with their players, and they bring a lot of energy to the team. They hold everyone accountable and don’t let anything ever be under their standard. They really like my game, and with them moving up to the Big 12, they need to build around players like me.”

Virginia Tech: “They finish super high in the ACC, which is a really tough conference. They are a really good program, and they have good academics. The fact they have won a lot of games is what is sticking out about them for me.”

“Michigan stays in contact with me a good bit; they have not offered. They were here today, I think, watching.”

Swain’s Take

“I will be looking for a place where I will play and play a big role on the team. I want to go to a staff who truly loves my game, and they are not just telling me what I want to hear. They have a plan for me and my development. And I want to go to a place that wins games.”

On3’s Take

Dailyn Swain has a lengthy and projectable basketball frame. He is very fluid and has some wiggle in his handle. Swain initiates the offense most of the possessions for his high school team. He projects as a wing moving forward, however, when he pushes, he does have good ball skills in the open floor. As Swain continues to get stronger, he will add more pop and quickness to his slender frame. There is a lot of upside and potential here, and things are starting to come together for the 16-year-old
