In his first three games back from a terrible ankle injury, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is performing at one of the highest levels of his career.

After Week 3, Prescott has completed 77.5% of his passes for 878 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions. His completion percentage is the best of his career through three games, and his touchdown-to-interception ratio is second only to 2019 when he had nine touchdown throws and two interceptions through Week 3.

While his passing yardage this year has him 10th in the NFL, the Cowboys are 2-1 and coming off a 41-21 thrashing of their division rival, the Philadelphia Eagles, and Prescott feels like his play is the best of his career.

“I think just getting hurt last year and having to sit back and watch football, a different perspective and just different ways people play this game,” Prescott said Monday. “Going back, the experience obviously has helped, but just studying and preparing myself and then all the work that I’ve put in just to get back healthy, not only the leg but the shoulder and just this playbook. Obviously, the continuity and having Kellen (Moore as offensive coordinator) so many years, I’m just comfortable in this system and everything that is going on around me and having playmakers. That’s a credit to guys around me. The offensive line and the receivers, they make my job a whole lot easier.”

The Cowboys are loaded at the skill positions, with Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb heading up the efforts at receiver and Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard splitting carries and having good seasons at running back as well. Pollard is averaging 6.8 yards per rush.

While Prescott’s offensive line allowed four sacks on Monday night, before this week’s game, they had allowed just three sacks in the first two games, including against one of the best defenses from last year in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“Yeah, I feel like I’m playing the best I’ve ever played,” Prescott added.

When Prescott went down with the injury last season during the Cowboys fifth game of the year, he was leading the NFL in passing yards, so it says a lot if he feels that his play and the play of those around him is the best of his six-year career.

Prescott has previously spoken about how the injury allowed him to have a new outlook on life and on football.

“I see healing, I see growth, I see faith. … I see it as a blessing,” Prescott told NBC’s Maria Taylor in an interview three weeks ago. “My perspective on life is that we’re all here for one another.”

He was emotional following the win Monday, as the game was his first back at AT&T Stadium since the injury. Prescott went 21-for-26 (a completion percentage of 80.8%) with three touchdowns.
