The Dallas Cowboys are activating receiver Malik Turner from the injured reserve list. Turner started the season on IR with a foot injury but was able to return to practice this week.

Turner started his career as an undrafted rookie free agent pickup by the Seattle Seahawks in 2018. He played college football at Illinois for four years. He left Illinois with 143 catches 1,804 yards, an average of 12.6 yards per catch, and ten touchdowns. His 1,804 yards and 143 catches were good for ninth all-time for the Fighting Illini.  While with the Seahawks he played in 27 games and started three Over two years. He left Seattle with 17 catches on 25 targets for 245 yards, averaged 15.6 yards per catch, and had one touchdown.

Dallas is still missing a star

The Cowboys are still without starting wide receiver Micheal Gallup who is still on injured reserves. Gallup exited the Cowboys’ season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with an ankle injury and has been out ever since. Before he left the game, the Cowboys receiver had four catches for 36 yards in the first half against the Buccaneers. He was targeted once in the third quarter prior to his exit. He did not return in the Cowboys 31-29 loss on Thursday night.

Michael Gallup is in his fourth season in the NFL after being drafted in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. In his career, Gallup has posted 2,457 yards and 13 touchdowns. His best season came in 2019, as the Colorado State product had 1107 receiving yards and six touchdowns, averaging a career best 16.8 yards per reception.

In college, Michael Gallup transferred to Colorado State in 2016 after two seasons at Butler Community College. In two seasons, Gallup posted 2690 yards and 21 touchdowns. Gallup received 2x All-Mountain West honors and was a second-team All-American in 2017.

Possibilities for Turner

Turner is more of a special teams guy for the Cowboys but with Gallup out he could see an offensive snap or two. With the Seahawks, he showed that he could stretch the field when called upon. And although the Cowboys have a plethora of pass-catching options at wide out, having one more deep threat definitely wouldn’t hurt.

The Cowboys are set to take on the surprisingly undefeated and NFC South-leading Carolina Panthers. Sunday’s game will be a measuring stick for both teams as they head into the second quarter of the season. The Dallas Cowboys have one of the NFL’s best offenses. While Carolina has a defense that on average gives up just 10 points per game.

Whether Turner plays a big role or not on Sunday is not know, but he will definitely be looking forward to getting back on the field and helping the Cowboy secure another victory.
