Dallas Cowboys first-round selection Micah Parsons played defensive end for the first time since high school against the Los Angeles Chargers. Drafted as a linebacker out of Penn State, he moved positions due to a litany of injuries suffered by the Cowboys defensive line.

After playing a fantastic game, Parsons may have to get used to playing defensive end more often.

In Week 2, only one NFL player had four QB hits and a sack — Micah Parsons. A crazy stat from the rookie.

While Parsons was drafted to be the Cowboys’ linebacker of the future, he may be more valuable disrupting the quarterback on each play. At the least, Parsons can expect to rush the passer more often as the season progresses.

Prior to yesterday’s game, Parsons received a vote of confidence from his teammate, Tarell Basham. Today, Basham might have to adopt a second career as a fortune teller.

“He can definitely play on the edge. That guy’s an athlete,” said Basham. “He’s naturally athletic, naturally gifted, and naturally knows how to rush the passer. I wouldn’t be surprised. Would you?”

Evidently, Basham isn’t surprised by Parsons’ terrific play against the Chargers. While DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory work their way back to the field, the Cowboys will be just fine.

Micah Parsons’ move to DE sparks shorthanded Dallas Cowboys defense

Coming into the season, defense was not being seen as the strongest part of the Dallas Cowboys. With multiple players injured and absent on defense, a lot of people expected a high scoring shootout on Sunday when the Cowboys took on the Los Angeles Chargers

Instead, the Cowboys played well defensively — coming away with a 20-17 victory.

Moreover, Parsons’ switch from linebacker to defensive line on Sunday  was a big reason behind the Cowboys win.

The former Penn State star had two tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss, and four quarterback hits on Sunday. The Cowboys held the Chargers to just 17 points and less than 100 yards rushing. Parsons played a pivotal role in the first win of the season for the Cowboys.

“I knew most of my snaps would come from me rushing the passer. And I just took it head on from Thursday to today – to be ready to play at a high level,” Parsons said to reporters after the game. “After today, we can open the playbook even more. I think my teammates and Coach Q put an unbelievable amount of faith in me. And it just keeps building my confidence to believe I can do much more than I thought I could do.”

Parsons’ strong play was huge for a Cowboys defense that was missing Gregory and Lawrence on the defensive line. The Cowboys ultimately won in exciting fashion, on a last second field goal by Greg Zuerlein.
