The Dallas Cowboys have struck a deal to re-sign kicker Lirim Hajrullahu ahead of training camp. According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Dallas agreed to bring back Hajrullahu on Friday. The Cowboys former placekicker spent the end of last season as a member of the Carolina Panthers.

Dallas brought in the then 31-year-old at the beginning of the 2021 season. Dallas signed Hajrullahu after former Pro Bowl starting kicker Greg Zuerlein struggled in week one. Zuerlein was still recovering from offseason back surgery when he missed a total of three kicks in the Cowboys week one loss. Hajrullahu would appear in only one game for the Cowboys, a week to blow out win against the Atlanta Falcons. In that game, he did not attempt a single field goal. However, he did convert his five extra-point attempts in that game.

Hajrullahu was able to show off more of his kicking attributes while with the Panthers to close out the season. He played in Carolina’s final three games of the year and made four of his five field-goal attempts. All four of his makes came from within the 35 yards. And his lone miss was a 47-yard attempt that was just wide right.

Hajrullahu will compete with undrafted rookie kicker Jonathan Gilbert out of Texas Tech during the Cowboys training camp for the opportunity to stay on the roster and possibly be the team’s starting kicker for the 2022 season.

Robert Griffin III reveals the key to the Dallas Cowboys season next year

Even with another NFC East crown, the Dallas Cowboys once again came up short. Their season ended in the Wild Card round with a 23-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The loss ended an up and down season that started at 6-1 but ended 6-5. With an explosive offense and an improved defense, some believed last season could have been Dallas’ best postseason opportunity in a few years. In order to get another shot in 2022, former NFL QB Robert Griffin III shared how he thinks the Cowboys can contend.

Griffin saw how great the Dallas offense was last season. They led the NFL in yards with 6,919. With 31.2 points per game, they led the league in scoring as well. Dak PresottEzekiel ElliottAmari Cooper and the rest of their cast were efficient on that side of the football in 2021.
