The Dallas Cowboys updated their Week Three injury report on Thursday, adding starting safety Damontae Kazee to the list with a thigh injury. The five-year NFL veteran was a limited participant at practice, according to NBC Sports.

Kazee joined the Cowboys this offseason along with former Atlanta Falcons teammate Keanu Neal. Both had great success under their former head coach and current Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. Kazee has 201 career tackles with 10 interceptions but has not picked off a pass since 2019.

The team has been hit hard in the aftermath of its Week One loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, losing La’El Collins to suspension, Michael Gallup and Demarcus Lawrence to injury reserve. Dallas also lost Randy Gregory to the COVID-19 reserve list.

Another starter in danger of missing Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers is safety Donovan Wilson. He did not practice on Thursday with a groin injury.

There was some positive news at practice with the return of rookie cornerback Nahshon Wright, who missed Wednesday’s practice for personal reasons. Defensive end Chauncey Golston, listed on the Cowboys Week Two injury report with a hamstring problem, was a full participant.

Injury updates

Offense

Wide receiver Michael Gallup suffered a calf injury in the loss and is expected to miss multiple weeks.

Gallup is the Cowboys’ third receiver behind Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb. Last Thursday, Gallup hauled in four receptions for 36 yards before suffering the injury. Cooper had a monster game with 13 receptions, 139 yards and two touchdowns. Lamb caught seven passes for 104 yards and a touchdown.

League experts expect former Boise State wide receiver Cedrick Wilson to take over as the third target for Dak Prescott, with versatile running back Tony Pollard also an option to take snaps in the slot.

Starting right tackle La’El Collins was hit with a five-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy. Reports say the former LSU Tiger has been tested for Marijuana roughly 10 times over the past 18 months without a positive.

Defense

Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence had surgery on his broken foot on Thursday, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. The Cowboys head coach said he expects him to return this season, as Lawrence’s timetable is six to eight weeks.

Starting defensive end Randy Gregory will also miss the Cowboys Week Two matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers. He tested positive for COVID-19 this week.

The loss of both edge rushers will be a major blow for the Cowboys defensive line, which did not record a sack in their Week One meeting with the Buccaneers.
