Darryn Peterson is the No. 8 player in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking. The 6-foot-5 guard averaged almost 31 points and nine rebounds for his Cuyahoga Falls (OH) Cuyahoga Valley Christian team this season.

“I feel like I do it all,” Peterson told On3. “I’ll guard, rebound, score the ball, facilitate, anything my coach needs me to do to get the win; I can do it. I lost my grandmother a couple of months ago, and that has really grown me mentally. Basketball has been my cope; now I’m doing it for her.”

On3 caught up with Darryn Peterson after a live viewing at the recent USA Basketball Junior National Team minicamp.

“I’ve taken (unofficial) visits so far to Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, and Xavier,” Peterson said. “I’m talking with Indiana and Kentucky a lot. I know I’m going to take some more visits coming up, but I’m not exactly sure who yet. My most recent offer was from Kansas.”

Peterson talks recruiting

Indiana: “Our relationship continues to grow. They’ve been at games to watch me play, and that is big with me. My coach and my father check in with them regularly, so that is big.”

Kentucky: “My dad talks with them a good bit, so a relationship is there for sure. They let their guards go to work and give them freedom. Wherever I go, I want to fit in. I feel like I fit in with how they play.”

Michigan State: “When I visited, I noticed how hard coach (Tom) Izzo is on them in practice. I want to play for a coach that is going to hold me accountable, and that is a big part of it for me.”

Xavier: “Cincinnati is where my dad is born and raised. They’re winning some games at Xavier, so I know it would be great there if I went.”

Ohio State: “That’s my hometown. When I was on my visit, they kept telling me I can be a hometown hero there. That would be cool for me too.”

Kansas: “They’re winners there, which is big for me because I want to win. I saw coach (Bill) Self was in the hospital for a little bit, so praying for him.:

Michigan: “I watch Jordan Poole. They showed me a lot of his highlights when I was there, and I saw how they ran their offense around him. They use a lot of handoffs and ball screens, and I am comfortable playing like that.” (from a previous interview with Peterson)

In Peterson’s words

“I’m going to look at wherever I fit in best,” Peterson said. “I want to go somewhere I can play my game and for a coach that is going to hold me accountable. Whichever school puts me in the best place to win.

I’m talking with Koa (Peat) and Meleek (Thomas) a little about playing together at the next level. They’re my dogs. I haven’t personally spoken to the G-League or any pro leagues yet; they’ve probably talked to my pops. I’m going to choose whichever route, whatever school is best for me.”
