Darryn Peterson is the No. 4 player in the 2025 On3 50. The 6-foot-5 guard at Cuyahoga Falls (OH) Cuyahoga Christian averaged 26.1 points per game last season. He was first-team All-Ohio Division II.

“My game? I facilitate and can shoot or score,” Peterson told On3. “I’ll work hard and love to win. My strength and athleticism have developed over the summer, and I’m a catch-and-shoot threat now. I watch a lot of Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. The footwork and how they’re assertive and how they attack their man.”

On3 caught up with Darryn Peterson at the October USA Basketball Minicamp to go in-depth about the current state of his recruitment.

“I have a lot of offers already,” Peterson said. “I visited Ohio State; they were one of my first offers. I’m going to visit Michigan soon, too; they’ve offered. I visited Michigan State recently. They haven’t offered yet.”

Ohio State: “I just like the relationship. It’s like a family there, and how they work hard. I went to their practice, seeing how hard they worked, and their coach held them all accountable, so I like that too.

“I learned every play matters; a little mistake can get you off the course. So, you got to take everything to heart, and you got to go hard and everything.”

Michigan: “It’s the coach. Coach (Juwan) Howard has been out to a lot of my games, so I feel like he’s building that connection early. I like that connection.

“I’ve watched a lot of Jordan Poole highlights, how he got a lot of catch-and-shoots when he was there. I want to work on my game like that and get better at that. Coach likes that I’m a scoring PG.”

Michigan State: “Coach (Tom) Izzo is a legend. I wanted to get on campus, get to a practice, and see how they work.”

“My last offers were Kentucky and Cincinnati,” Peterson said. “There were a few more too.”

Kentucky: “They win. They win, and they put people in the NBA, which is my goal. They play with a lot of ball screens. And they run their stuff through their guards and let them score.

Cincinnati: “I don’t know too much about them yet, I just got the offer, and I’m excited to go visit soon. One of my good friends, Jonah Lytle, plays football there so I know it’s a good school to go to.”

In his words

“My mom and dad both went to Akron,” Peterson said. “My dad, Darryl Peterson played there (editor’s note: Darryl Peterson played at Akron from 2001-06. He scored 1,377 career points).

“Winners want to win, and I want to play for a coach who is going to hold me accountable. I’ll have to be able to fit into that style of play. I play well in the screen and roll.

“I haven’t given much thought to the pro versus college route, not yet. I’m still a sophomore and got some time, so when that time comes, I’m definitely looking into both of those options.”
