David Pollack turned heads after declaring the Georgia Bulldogs the new top dogs in college football at halftime of the CFP National Championship which Kirby Smart’s team went on to win 65-7 over TCU. It wasn’t the confidence of his statement, though, that got everyone’s attention. It was who Pollack said it right in front of.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban had joined the broadcast team for coverage of the game and was sitting right next to Pollack as he made that point. As one could imagine, the internet took hold quickly and enjoyed Saban’s reaction in the clip. However, in an appearance on Get Up this morning, Pollack made it clear that his argument was not at all a shot at Saban or the Crimson Tide.

“First of all, I didn’t even think about who I was sitting next to when I said that. It had nothing to do with having Nick next to me” said Pollack. “We were at halftime and y’all know how this works. We gotta talk about something and it dang sure wasn’t the game. The game was over! Everybody knew that in the stadium, everybody knew that at home.”

“So it was like, man, look at what Georgia’s done and the dominance. It had nothing to do with taking a shot at Nick,” Pollack said. “Nick didn’t say a word and he wasn’t upset in the slightest bit so it was not a shot at Nick Saban.

After that, Marcus Spears gave Pollack a pass as, in his mind, there was nothing but truth in his statement. Winning back-to-back titles has earned Georgia the right to be considered ‘on top of the mountain’. However, he did warn Pollack that he might now be public enemy No. 1 both in Tuscaloosa and in the Alabama locker room next season.

“You don’t have to explain a damn thing man! You were being truthful and honest. And we have watched Nick Saban and Alabama say the same type of thing for the last 10 years,” said Spears. “Right now, it’s Georgia’s game. That’s what it boils down to. But (Saban) will play that highlight a thousand times next year in his locker room and during preseason!”

Finally, after Pollack has apologized once more, Dominique Foxworth said enough was enough. He told Pollack to stick to his guns because, as of today, this sport belongs to Georgia.

“Say it with your chest, David! Don’t get nervous on me!,” said Foxworth. “Georgia owns college football and you are not afraid of Alabama. Let’s go!”

This was a hilarious moment during the blowout last night and it led to quite a comical moment on ESPN this morning. Still, in the end, both things can be true. The Bulldogs do have a death grip on college football after going 29-1 the last two seasons. With that said, that doesn’t mean Saban and Alabama won’t be back again next fall to loosen that grip and take that top spot back for themselves.
