As the College Football Playoff committee prepares to release its updated rankings Tuesday night, ESPN’s Bill Connelly shared his thoughts on what they should look like. He released his projections, based on his BCS-like metrics.

The top five are the same as what the CFP committee decided last week — Georgia, Ohio State and Michigan, TCU and Tennessee. But since Oregon lost last week, LSU would jump into the top six based on Connelly’s projections. USC, Alabama, Clemson and Utah round out the respective top 10.

Here’s ESPN’s full projection for the CFP top 25, which nearly predicted the top portion of last week’s rankings.

  1. Georgia
  2. Ohio State
  3. Michigan
  4. TCU
  5. Tennessee
  6. LSU
  7. USC
  8. Alabama
  9. Clemson
  10. Utah
  11. Penn State
  12. Oregon
  13. North Carolina

  19. Notre Dame
  20. Florida State
  21. Cincinnati
  22. Tulane
  23. Texas
  24. Oklahoma State
  25. Oregon State

Connelly’s numbers show four SEC teams in the top six, but two of them — Georgia and LSU — will square off in the SEC Championship. But things can get interesting depending on how the rest of the year goes considering Tennessee handily defeated LSU, but fell to Georgia.

Michigan and Ohio State appear to be on a collision course for next week’s edition of The Game. Both teams bring undefeated records into their games this week, and if they win, it would create a much-anticipated rivalry game with not only a Big Ten Championship appearance on the line, but also both teams’ CFP chances hanging in the balance.

Additionally, TCU’s future creates plenty of intrigue. The Horned Frogs are 10-0 and clinched an appearance in the Big 12 Championship, but a loss to either Baylor or Iowa State would make for quite a decision for the committee.

The updated CFP rankings will be announced Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN between games of the Champions Classic.
