You may not recognize the name Miro Little, but he’s one of the top international point guards in the class of 2023. The Finland native saw his recruitment explode during the U18 Nordic Cup, after averaging 18 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in 23 minutes per game.

The recruitment process is all new to Little. Growing up, he dreamed of playing college basketball and now that’s slowly started to become a reality for the young, Finnish star.

“It’s still becoming a reality,” Little said. “When I visited schools, that’s when I realized like ‘this is actually happening’. It’s still weird to be recruited by schools, but it’s also really exciting at the same time and I’m really proud of myself too.”

Coaches from Indiana, Baylor, and USC have made trips to see Miro Little in Finland and he spoke about how much that meant to him.

“It was really awesome that they came,” Little said. “As you know, Finland is really far away. We are growing a lot in basketball and I hope they see Finland as a place to find other players as well.”

After being contacted by a slew of schools, including the likes of Arizona, Gonzaga, Kansas, and others, Little narrowed his focus and set official visits to three schools.

  • Baylor: January 15-16
  • Villanova: January 18-19
  • Indiana: January 20-21

In the span of a week, Miro Little was able to see three different colleges campus for roughly 48 hours each, before moving on to the next school. Little was also fortunate enough to see a game played at each stop.

Baylor

Little’s first trip was to Baylor, where the Bears took on Oklahoma State but were defeated in an upset.

Little gave his thoughts on Baylor.

“Baylor is the national champions, and they had a really good season before that too,” Little explained. “It’s a guard-heavy system, with two point guards. I would be able to read ball screens, make the right pass, score, and shoot the ball so it’s really interesting.”

Villanova

Next, Little tripped to Villanova where once again, the home team suffered an upset, this time to Marquette.

Little gave his thoughts on the Wildcats.

“It’s an awesome system. They’ve proven that they have one of the best systems at the college level. They’re winners and they like to win. That’s something that they take a lot of pride in. They work really hard and they play in the Big East conference so you have to play hard in that conference.”

Indiana

Indiana couldn’t have picked a better game for Miro Little to attend, as the Hoosiers upset Purdue in a thriller.

“It was crazy, indeed,” Little said. “I’ve never been to a game like that. There were like 17,000 people. Coming from Finland, there isn’t a place you can go and get that kind of atmosphere. How the game ended was awesome. It was a great win over their rival school.”

During the game, Little sat beside Indiana commit Gabe Cupps.

“We had a few conversations and exchanged a few thoughts and it was really nice meeting him,” Little said. “He’s an awesome person, a really nice guy. He’s mad cool.”

Little also got to sit down and talk with IU head coach Mike Woodson.

“I got to talk with him a lot and it was awesome,” said Little. “He’s an awesome person and you can just see how much he knows about basketball. He knows what he’s doing and you just want to listen to him and hear what he has to say. He’s very successful and he’s had one of the longest careers as an NBA coach, so he’s a really awesome coach.”

Decision timetable

Little plans to make a decision fairly soon after his season at Helsinki Basketball Academy concludes in late March. He isn’t exactly sure when he will announce a decision but says it’ll come around April-May.

How does Miro Little describe his game?

“I’m a fun player to watch. I do a little bit of everything on the floor, from the offensive side to the defensive side. I’m energetic and a leader. Leadership is really important to me. I want to make sure my teammates are having fun while we play. You can see me having fun on the court. It’s something I love.”
