Five-star defensive lineman Shemar Stewart of Opa Locka (Fla.) Monsignor Edward Pace narrowed his list to five schools – Texas A&M, Ohio State, Miami, Georgia and Clemson.

Stewart previously announced a top 10 in December. He eliminated LSU, Alabama, Penn State, Arizona State and Florida from contention.

The 6-foot-5, 275-pound senior still has a lot of schools in pursuit, and he is looking forward to focusing on a smaller group of schools as he pushes toward a commitment.

Stewart’s only official visit went to LSU. He took unofficial visits to Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami (three visits), Ohio State, South Carolina and Texas A&M.

Earlier today, On3 National Analyst Chad Simmons wrote about how important those official and unofficial visits were to shaping the list of schools Stewart’s still considering. Simmons said the summer trips gave Stewart a new perspective.

Shemar Stewart did not want to name the schools, but he said, “three schools stick out the most right now.” Simmons broke down what his intel says about schools are the highest on Stewart’s list.

Aggies impress Shemar Stewart

“I believe Coach (Jimbo) Fisher has put together a great staff,” Stewart said. “The campus was amazing, and the fact that I have the opportunity to play immediately was big as well.”

Stewart a fan of Ohio State DL coach

“Coach (Larry) Johnson is one of, if not the best, defensive line coaches in the game,” Stewart said. “I feel like he could take me to the next level.”

Miami wants Stewart to stay home

“Miami is close to home,” Stewart said. “I have a great relationship with most of the guys on staff, as well as a lot of players on the team. It would be great to bring a national championship back to Miami.”

Stewart likes UGA’s facilities

“I love the atmosphere at Georgia,” Stewart said. “Coach (Dan) Lanning is the edge rusher coach, as well as the defensive coordinator. That’s a plus. The facilities were amazing, too.”

Clemson’s winning catches Stewart’s attention

“Clemson is a winning program,” Stewart said. “They have shown that they can compete with the best.”

Scouting Stewart

The Sunshine State prospect is ranked as the No. 11 player in the On300 for the 2022 class. Shemar Stewart is listed as the fourth-best defensive lineman behind Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy, Walter Nolen and Mykel Williams.

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power says Stewart is one of the best players in the class regardless of position.

“Shemar Stewart has long been considered one of the top prospects in the 2022 cycle,” Power said. “He’s a physically gifted defensive lineman with a big frame and outstanding length.”

“Stewart is a natural mover and shines in the camp setting. He’s had some dominant moments on Friday nights, as well. Stewart missed much of his junior season with an injury but looked back to form in the spring with a dominant spring game showing.”

“We’ll be watching him closely this fall. There’s no doubt he’s got a very high ceiling as a prospect.”
