Florida Governor Ron DeSantis pleaded his case for Miami over Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff. However, he conceded he’d be fine with both getting into the dance.

But it would be an injustice if Notre Dame got in over Miami this year. Considering the head to head win for the Hurricanes dating back to August, Miami has an argument.

Both finished the regular season 10-2 and ranked. But Notre Dame’s been ahead of Miami since the CFP rankings were released in November.

“If ND gets in and Miami doesn’t, it will further erode the importance of the regular season,” DeSantis wrote on Twitter/X. “I’m OK with both getting in, but identical records should mean the head-to-head is the tiebreaker if you have to choose between them.”

DeSantis has a point when it comes ot the regular season. Sure, there are other factors that go into rankings throughout the entire season, but with comparable resumes, Mario Cristobal and company have the biggest case against Marcus Freeman and the Irish: a win.

“I feel strongly about our case,” Cristobal told On3’s Ari Wasserman. “It’s not because we are creating narrative. We are presenting facts. We played each other. We played the same teams. And we did a better job. Now we have to respectfully present the information. I don’t want to come across a certain way, but … When it comes down to things that are being compared, you always wish you had a head-to-head to evaluate. In this case, we do.”

Freeman and Cristobal can only do so much talking when it comes to the College Football Playoff rankings. Miami has the head to head, but Notre Dame has the higher ranking prior to Tuesday’s next rankings ahead of the conference title games.

“Yeah, I was just on ESPN and said the same thing,” Freeman said after the win over Stanford. “You talk about a team that is probably playing as well as anyone right now. We’ve won 10 straight games in a row. I think all of them by double-digit points maybe. And you want the 12 best teams. Now I know you have the conference champions and the Group of Five highest-ranked team, but you talk about who are the best teams now. Not week one. Now, and it’s hard to argue we aren’t one of those teams.”
