Former Alabama wideout Devonta Smith posts career day after sensational first half
“The Slim Reaper” may be Devonta Smith‘s nickname, but he’s playing like a grown man against the Washington Commanders.
The Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver has been an absolute monster against their NFC East rival on Sunday, amassing 156 receiving yards in the first half alone. That’s already enough to shatter his career high of 122 receiving yards in an NFL game, as he’s looking more like he did during his Heisman season at Alabama right now.

Afterwards, the former Alabama star showed off some impressive strength, pulling down a goal-line fade for a touchdown before halftime. Now, the Eagles lead the Commanders by a score of 24-0 — the revenge game for Carson Wentz isn’t going nearly as well as Washington thought it would.
Moreover, Smith didn’t have any catches in the Eagles’ Week 1 victory over the Detroit Lions, but they’ve made it a point to get him more involved over their two games since. First, Smith caught seven passes for 80 yards last Monday against the Minnesota Vikings, and now he’s having a career day in only the first half against the Commanders.
Meanwhile, it’s been a miserable day for the Washington offense, as the aforementioned Wentz has only completed 3 out of 10 passes for 24 passing yards. While the Commanders have just five first downs and zero points, the Eagles have 18 first downs and lead by three scores.
In the second half, Smith has added another catch for 12 yards, giving him 8 receptions for 169 yards at the moment.
As you can see, it’s a special day for Devonta Smith in Washington, especially with Jalen Hurts feeding him the football. Over 150 yards thus far, who knows how many he could end up with on the day.
