Former Iowa star Luka Garza established himself as one of the most decorated players in college basketball history during his time with the Hawkeyes. The 6’10, 243-pound center just completed his rookie season with the Detroit Pistons. He’s already been working hard and training in the offseason so he can take his game to another level next year. Check out this video that Overtime Elite posted on Saturday of Garza working out there doing agility drills.

In his rookie season, he had a breakout performance on April 10th against the Philadelphia 76ers–stuffing the stat sheet with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists. Games like that one are a quick reminder of just how very good Garza was throughout his college basketball career.

In his rookie season with the Pistons last year, he pumped in 5.8 points per game, 3.1 rebounds per game, and 0.6 assists per game.

Luka Garza wrapped up his career with the Iowa Hawkeyes as one of the most decorated players in college basketball history

When he wrapped up his career with the Iowa Hawkeyes, Garza finished as one of the most decorated players in college basketball history. He earned consensus National Player of the Year honors his senior year. He firmly cemented his remarkable legacy in Hawkeye basketball lore, finishing his career as Iowa’s all-time scoring leader with 2,306 points. His #55 jersey has already been retired in the rafters in Carver-Hawkeye Arena and deservedly so.

In the 2020-2021 season, Garza averaged 24.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.6 blocks, while shooting 44 percent from three-point range. He became the first player since Doug McDermott (2012) to average 20 points and 8 rebounds, while shooting 44 percent from beyond-the-arc (minimum 100 three-pointers attempted). Among other accolades, he was also named the 2021 Big Ten Player of the Year. He became the first player in Iowa basketball history to earn the honor twice. Garza also became just the third player in Big Ten Conference history to win the award in back-to-back seasons.
