North Carolina transfer Anthony Harris has committed to Rhode Island, he tells On3.

“I’ve been recruited by Archie Miller for a long time now,” Harris said to On3. “He started recruiting me while he was at Indiana, back when I was still in high school. I felt really comfortable with the staff and what their plan was for me. I’m excited to get back to being Ant.”

The Virginia native has spent the last three seasons in Chapel Hill, battling through a number of injuries throughout his career. During his freshman and sophomore years, Harris struggled to stay healthy, after tearing his ACL during his freshman campaign in 2019-20. Prior to his injury, Harris averaged 6.8 points in just 12 minutes a game during year one at North Carolina.

Harris’ year was once again cut short this past season after head coach Hubert Davis sidelined him for undisclosed reasons. As the Tar Heels marched deep in the NCAA tournament, Harris did not hear his name called. He appeared in just 14 games for UNC during the 2021-22 year, averaging 2.6 points, in just 11.7 minutes per contest. Harris never found a clear-cut role during his time at North Carolina, thus entering the transfer portal in April and has now found his new home in the Atlanta 10 — with the Rhode Island Rams. Harris also visited UCF prior to making his decision.

Archie Miller forming a solid recruiting class in year one

Newly-appointed head coach Archie Miller has put together a solid 2022 recruiting class in his first year at the helm. Harris will join George Washington transfer Brayon Freeman and Seton Hall transfer Brandon Weston. Not to mention, Jeremy Foumena, a 7-foot center out of Orangeville Prep in Canada.

Coming out of high school, Harris was rated as a four-star recruit, and the No. 65 overall player in the 2019 class according to On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Harris was originally signed with Viriginia Tech, before flipping to North Carolina. Harris also considered offers from Ohio State, Louisville, Seton Hall and others.
