Four-star cornerback Daylen Austin of Long Beach (Calif.) Poly High is down to eight schools—Alabama, Penn State, Oregon, Georgia, USC, Michigan State, LSU,and Nebraska. 

The 6-foot-1, 185 pounder quickly discussed his finalists.

Alabama

“It’s the mecca of college football, they made it known that I’m a top priority for them.”

Penn State 

“Coach Smith is a well respected coach in college football and showed that he can develop freshmen that are ready to compete at a high level.”

Oregon

“Coach Lanning recruited me when he was at Georgia and I’ve built a relationship with him,” Austin said. “He brought in Coach Lupoi and Coach Meat, who are also great coaches.”

Georgia

“They just won the Natty,” Austin said. “I took two visits up there and the facility was crazy. They showed that they really care for their players.”

USC

“Lincoln Riley brought in his new staff but kept Coach Donte who I’ve already had a relationship with,” Austin said. “He’s turning around the program and I can see the differences.”

Michigan State 

“They let me know right away that I’m a top priority for them,” Austin said. “When I took my visit I could see the actions behind their words.”

LSU

“Coach Kelly recruited me when he was at Notre Dame, and I’ve kept the same relationship with him,” Austin said. “He also brought in Coach Steeples from the NFL, and I know his knowledge can help me dominate at the college level.”

Nebraska

“Their whole staff is coming after me,” Austin said. “I can tell that I’m wanted there, as they’re one of the most consistent schools I’m in communication with.”

Daylen Austin ranks as the No. 154 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting sites. He also tabs in as the No.18 cornerback and the tenth-best player in the state of California.

Scouting Summary

Daylen Austin brings a combination of size, athleticism and playmaking to the table at cornerback. He has solid size at 5-foot-11.5, 176 pounds. Austin has shown some improved speed this spring, running 10.82 seconds in the 100 meters. He had a strong junior season and really excelled as a return man. We saw Austin’s playmaking ability on display as he took several kick and punt returns to the house. He drives on the ball in coverage. Austin also shows ball skills at corner with the ability to track and high-point the ball downfield.
