Tifton (Ga.) Tift County defensive lineman Tyre West was the third player to commit to Georgia’s 2022 class back at the end of 2020.

West will instead play his college football at Tennessee.

West, the 89th overall player in the class of 2022 according to the On3 Consensus rankings, may end up elsewhere when the early signing period opens on Dec. 15. The 6-foot-3, 280-pound defensive lineman has announced that he is reopening his options.

“I opened up all my options to make sure if Georgia was the right spot for me,” West said.

There has been a recent influx of defensive linemen in the class of 2022 for Georgia. The Bulldogs flipped the 15th overall ranked player according to the On3 Consensus Mykel Williams on Oct. 20.

The Consensus 40th ranked player Denton (Texas) IMG Academy Bear Alexander committed to Georgia on Oct. 21.

Georgia is also in the final four schools for four-star defensive lineman Christen Miller. Bulldogs are still among the finalist for Opa Locka (Fla.) Monsignor Pace defensive lineman Shemar Stewart.

“I want to go somewhere where I’m needed, not wanted,” West said.

Tyre West had a few options

Tennesse had to beat out Auburn and Florida State. West took an unofficial to Auburn on Nov. 27. He was in Knoxville on his official visit on Dec. 10.

He took an official visit to Florida State on Nov. 17. The Seminoles have been a program that has hung around for West for much of his recruitment. He was in Tallahassee back in June. West’s latest trip to Florida State was an impressive one for him.

“It was good,” West said. The atmosphere down there was really good.”
