Julian Phillips, a 6-8 forward from Blythewood, South Carolina, has seen his stock soar in the last few months. To no surprise, Phillips holds nearly 30 offers and has taken official visits to Florida State, Clemson, and LSU.

Phillips’ Thoughts on the Florida State Seminoles

Julian’s first trip was down south to see Florida State.

“It went real good,” he said. “Coach Hamilton and Coach Smith showed me and my family a lot of hospitality. There facilities were real nice. Campus was nice. Academics side of it was good. They have a lot to offer and they’re a pretty good program.”

The Seminoles finished second in the ACC last season, and first the year before. Florida State has also had success in the recruiting trail, bringing in multiple 5-star recruits over the past few years. Additionally, there isn’t a shortage of Florida State funneling guys into the NBA either… Dwayne Bacon, Malik Beasley, Terance Mann, Jonathan Isaac, and Patrick Williams to name a few.

Phillips’ Thoughts on the Clemson Tigers

Next, Phillips traveled just a couple hours down the road to visit one of the in-state programs, the Clemson Tigers.

“Coach Brownell and Coach Dean, I’ve known them for a while now. They’ve been recruiting me since the summer before 9th grade,” he said. “I’ve actually been up there before to see a football game. Their campus is real beautiful. Facilities are real nice. Everybody up there is real friendly with each other. It’s pretty good vibes up there as well.”

Clemson, traditionally a mid-tier team in the ACC, does offer some benefits by being close to home. With this in mind, when asked if he feels any pressure to stay home, he replied: “No, I don’t feel any pressure, I feel like in this process, I have to do what’s best for myself and find where the best fit is, wherever that might be.”

Phillips’ Thoughts on the LSU Tigers

Lastly, Phillips made the trip to Baton Rouge to see the Tigers.

“It was real good,” he said. “Coach Wade and his staff are real nice guys. Their campus is nice. I go to see the tiger they have…that was pretty cool. All in all, it was a good visit.”

LSU has seen great success since Will Wade took over the program in 2017. The Tigers have finished third in the SEC the past two years, and finished first in the the 2018-19 season. It’s also important to note that LSU has landed roughly 15 top-100 prospects since Wade became head coach.

Furthermore, Julian Phillips plans to take an official visit to Wake Forest on July 26th. Following that visit, he would like to cut his list down and then shortly after, make a decision.
