4-star offensive lineman Demetrius Hunter commits to Houston
Orange (Texas) West Orange-Stark offensive lineman Demetrius Hunter has committed to Houston, he announced Tuesday morning.
Hunter is the No. 422 prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 30 interior offensive lineman and the No. 64 prospect in Texas.
He posted a video Tuesday morning with highlights of his high school season. At the end, Hunter said: “After further consideration with my family and my friends, I’m staying home. H-Town, baby.” His hometown of Orange is roughly 100 miles from Houston’s campus.
Hunter was committed to Oklahoma until two weeks ago, when he backed off his pledge to the Sooners after head coach Lincoln Riley left for USC. Houston and Missouri quickly jumped in the mix, but Hunter was one of the few former OU commits that new coach Brent Venables didn’t re-recruit.
Missouri got him on campus for an official visit last weekend, but on his way home, he stopped in Houston for a visit to see the Cougars. He looks to have committed on the spot, with his commitment video taking place inside the Cougars’ stadium.
He immediately becomes Houston’s highest-rated commit in the 2022 class. And with him in the fold, the Cougars jumped eight spots to No. 73 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings.
