Four-star offensive tackle Spencer Fano of Provo (Utah) Timpview High is down to four schools– BYU, Oregon, Michigan, and Utah.

The 6-foot-4, 250 pounder went in-depth on his finalists.

BYU

“BYU is the school closest to my home so it would be easiest for my parents to make it to games,” Fano said. “Coach Sitake and coach Funk are both great coaches. Also, my brother goes to BYU and obviously playing with him would be hard to pass up.”

Oregon

“Oregon has coach Lanning and coach Klemm, who are both incredible coaches who know what it takes to win,” Fano said. “Coach Klemm has coached people like Xavier Suafilo, someone who went to the same highschool as me and went on an LDS mission and helped him become the great player he is today.”

Michigan

“Michigan has coach Moore, who with his squad won the Joe Moore award last year,” Fano said. “That alone says enough of how good of a coach he is. On my first visit to Ann Arbor, I was extremely impressed and am excited for my OV. Almost nowhere else has a culture of winning like Michigan and I would love to be a part of that.”

Utah

“Utah is the second closest to my home,” Fano said. “ Not only that but they have been proven to be one of the best schools at developing players and have put many O-linemen into the NFL. Maybe the biggest part in that is their O-line coach, coach Harding who is someone I could definitely see myself playing for.”

Spencer Fano Scouting Summary

“Light-footed, technical offensive tackle,” On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote. “Always under control and a menace in the running and passing game. Plays with violence and has exceptional balance. Athleticism stands out when working in open space as a puller and when climbing to the second level. Comfortable in pass protection. Quality kick slide and footwork to live on an island at either tackle spot. Lacks ideal overall mass and strength throughout his frame. One of the few top offensive linemen nationally who does not have verified size or length. Biggest question mark for how soon he can see the field will be his ability to put on good weight. Must add power in order to play with necessary functional strength. Has a high upside due to his movement skills but a low floor as well if he can not get his weight up.”

Fano ranks as the No. 144 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting sites. He also tabs in as the No. 1 offensive tackle and the No. 2 player in the state of Utah.
