Nick Ammirati spent the previous three seasons on staff at Kentucky. He has also previously worked at Southern Miss.
Ammirati is replacing Josh Simpson on the Georgia coaching staff. Simpson left Georgia for a spot on Jay Johnson’s staff at LSU.
Georgia is coming off of an excellent season in 2024. The Bulldogs finished 43-17 last year. Georgia advanced all the way to the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament. However, Wes Johnson’s squad came up short against NC State, dropping the three-game series 2 to 1.

Here was LSU’s release announcing the news said about the move:
“Josh Simpson, the director of baseball operations for LSU’s 2023 National Championship team, is returning to the Tigers as assistant coach, head coach Jay Johnson announced on Monday. Simpson worked during the 2024 season as assistant coach at Georgia, where he helped lead the Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament No. 7 National Seed and the NCAA Athens Regional title.”
Johnson is certainly happy to have Simpson back in the fold and provided the following quotes on the move:
“I am really excited to bring Josh back to LSU as a member of our coaching staff. Josh is an elite evaluator, and will help us continue to bring the nation’s top players to Baton Rouge both from the high school ranks and the transfer portal.
“He was an instrumental member of our staff for the 2023 National Championship team, and he did a terrific job at Georgia this past year. I am looking forward to getting Josh back in our dugout and program, and our players will benefit tremendously with him being back in the purple and gold.”
As mentioned, Simpson was on staff when LSU won the 2023 national title.
