Tuesday is cut day around the NFL as teams get their rosters down to the 53-man limit. The Green Bay Packers were also busy, waiving multiple players, including a quarterback.

Green Bay cut quarterback Danny Etling, defensive tackle Jack Heflin, cornerback Kiondre Thomas, tight end Alize Mack, wide receiver Juwann Winfree and running backs Tyler Goodson and Dexter Williams, according to multiple reports. The Packers have until 4 p.m. ET to get the roster to 53 with the season opener less than two weeks away.

Etling, a former LSU quarterback, appeared in all three preseason games for the Packers. He completed 17 of 22 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown in that span, but likely won’t end up finding a spot in a quarterback room that includes Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love.

Williams took 11 carries for 160 yards during the preseason, but didn’t find the end zone. The Notre Dame product hasn’t played in a regular-season game since the 2020 season with the Packers. Mack — another former Fighting Irish star — suffered a hamstring injury, which hampered his chances of making the roster.

Goodson starred at Iowa before joining the Packers and put together a solid preseason with 29 carries for 107 yards and a touchdown. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Green Bay wants Goodson on its practice squad, although he could garner plenty of interest from other teams.

Winfree started all three preseason games and had seven receptions for 75 yards. On defense, Thomas totaled nine tackles and two passes defended before getting waived.

Green Bay could opt to keep any players it waives on its practice squad, meaning this group could still find itself with the Packers in some fashion if they don’t sign elsewhere.

Green Bay Packers planning to cut special teams ace Ty Summers

The Green Bay Packers are expected to cut linebacker Ty Summers days before the NFL’s mandatory 53-man roster-cut deadline, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Summers was the heart and soul of the Packers special teams, and the decision has come as somewhat of a surprise.

Summers was drafted by the Packers in the seventh-round of the 2019 NFL Draft, and has carved out a niche role for himself on the team since. While he sees action every now and again on the defensive side of the ball, he has truly excelled in the special teams departments, leading the team in special teams tackles the previous two seasons.

The TCU product is expected to receive interest in the waiver wire, and is expected to make an impact on special teams right away wherever he may land.
