The Green Bay Packers defense had an impressive performance on Sunday, shutting down the Seattle Seahawks in a defensive battle. In the game, their first-round selection from April had his best game of his career — defensive back Eric Stokes Jr. is looking like a star.

On Sunday, Stokes had to go up against two of the best wide receivers in the league — Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf. To make things harder, veteran star quarterback Russell Wilson returned to attempt to wreak havoc. Evidently, none of it mattered to Stokes — he was going to ball out regardless.

According to Pro Football Focus, Stokes played 47 coverages snaps against the Seahawks. The rookie was targeted four times, allowing zero receptions and zero yards. He was lockdown.

Moreover, Stokes’ performance is gigantic for the Packers. The team needed their secondary to step up with the loss of Jaire Alexander, and step up they have.

Now, it looks like the Packers have a dangerous duo for when Alexander is able to return to the team. Until then, Stokes will continue to hold down the fort — shutting down opposing receiving corps and looking like a star.

Packers defense shuts down Seattle, DK Metcalf ejected

As Eric Stokes Jr. helped shutdown the Seahawks, tensions were high for the Packers’ opponent. With Seattle trailing Green Bay 17-0 late in the 4th quarter, Wilson threw an incomplete pass across the middle Metcalf.

Then, Metcalf decided to walk up to Green Bay Packers defensive back Henry Black, get up in his face, and grabbed his face-mask. The chaos only escalated from there — Metcalf hit Green Bay defensive back Rasul Douglas in the face-mask right in front of the referees. Additionally, Metcalf exchanged words with other Green Bay Packers defenders.

He was ejected from the game, even though it really didn’t matter as the game was in hand for Green Bay, 17-0. After he was ejected, Metcalf tried to re-enter the huddle on the next play but wasn’t allowed by officials.

Evidently, Stokes and the Packers secondary frustrated Metcalf on Sunday. The former Ole Miss star only had three catches for 26 yards on eight targets, so Metcalf was likely releasing some anger due to an awful performance on the day. Moreover, Fellow Seahawks wideout Tyler Lockett didn’t have a good day either — bringing in just two catches for 23 yards on eight targets.

Next up for Stokes and the Packers is a divisional showdown with the Minnesota Vikings. Then, American’s Game of the Week — a gigantic matchup with the Los Angeles Rams.

With Eric Stokes Jr. and the Packers defense holding it down for Aaron Rodgers and the offense, things are looking up for the Packers in the future.
