Greg Sankey switches away from YouTube TV amid Disney carriage dispute

A carriage dispute between Disney and YouTube TV puts fans in an interesting spot on Saturday. None of the Week 10 SEC action was available through the streaming service, sending a lot of people in the South into a frenzy. SEC commissioner Greg Sankey is no different, having to take some action.
Sankey took to social media to announce a change in where he watches his football. He posted a screenshot of himself updating his Hulu account. A switch up from a tweet earlier in the year, where Sankey bragged about the service YouTube TC can provide.
“Problem solved,” Sankey said via X. “Plenty of options in this environment (saved a bit while making the change).”
TV ratings have become a big part of the discussion across college football. No program has been bigger than SEC All Day on ABC, showcasing a triple header. Another one came on Saturday, starting with Texas–Vanderbilt, followed by Florida–Georgia in Jacksonville, and capping the night off with Oklahoma–Tennessee.
Sankey might usually find himself on the road to personally take in a game. Instead, he appears to be at home to catch all the action — on Hulu, instead of YouTube TV.

As for the dispute, there does not appear to be an end in sight. Channels related to Disney were not available on YouTube TV as of late Thursday night/early Friday morning.
“Unfortunately, Google’s YouTube TV has chosen to deny their subscribers the content they value most by refusing to pay fair rates for our channels, including ESPN and ABC,” Disney’s statement reads. “Without a new agreement in place, their subscribers will not have access to our programming which includes the best lineup in live sports – anchored by the NFL, NBA, and college football, with 13 of the top 25 college teams playing this weekend.
“With a $3 trillion market cap, Google is using its market dominance to eliminate competition and undercut the industry-standard terms we’ve successfully negotiated with every other distributor. We know how frustrating this is for YouTube TV subscribers and remain committed to working toward a resolution as quickly as possible.”
After SEC football, Monday Night Football will be the next major sporting event to feature on ESPN/ABC. Sankey does not have as much invested in the Dallas Cowboys hosting the Arizona Cardinals. But either way, he can tune into the broadcast thanks to his new Hulu account.
