Atlanta Pace Academy four-star defensive lineman Hevin Brown-Shuler holds more than 40 offers. He is ready to cut down that list by more than half.

Brown-Shuler announced his top 13 schools on New Year’s Day. They are Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Georgia, Penn State, Michigan, Virginia, Colorado and USC.

“Those are the schools that I have the best relationship with,” Brown-Shuler told On3. “I’ve been to a lot of the schools on the list and I felt like I got that gut feeling that you really want to go somewhere (at) all the schools that I’ve visited so far, so that’s why those schools made the cut.”

The 6-foot-2.5, 300-pound recruit has already visited Clemson, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Penn State, Virginia and Ohio State. He is hoping to see Oregon, Michigan and Colorado for the first time in the coming months.

According to the On3 Visit Center, Brown-Shuler has already taken 33 visits. Spending time on a school’s campus matters to the four-star.

“To be honest, it’s pretty important to me because I want to like the environment that I’m in,” said Brown-Shuler, the No. 51 overall prospect and No. 8 defensive lineman in the 2024 On3 Consensus. “All the schools have a pretty big campus and there’s a lot of love. You always have the alumni at each of the schools that I selected.”

Brown-Shuler goes in-depth on two schools, timeline

Brown-Shuler is returning to Clemson for a junior day on Jan. 28. He also wants to visit the Ducks.

“I’m really trying to get Oregon locked in right now because I’ve never been,” Brown-Shuler said. “‘I’ve always been a fan of Oregon. Oregon’s in Eugene, right by Nike. I really do want to see that. I know it’s pretty nice.”

Colorado has Brown-Shuler’s attention as well. Head coach Deion Sanders has already landed two defensive lineman in the Buffaloes’ 2024 recruiting class: Valdosta (Ga.) teammates four-star Omar White and On3 four-star Eric Brantley Jr.

“Coach Prime was recruiting me when he was at (Jackson State), so I already had the connection,” Brown Shuler said. “Going (from) an HBCU to a P5, I feel like he has more power and he can really read the program a lot more. That’s why they made the list. I think he can really turn that program around.”

Brown-Shuler plans to take his official visits and commit before his senior season. According to the Georgia native, he has visited Clemson, Georgia and South Carolina the most so far.

The four-star will release a top five, which will probably be the schools that receive officials from him. He will then announce his commitment from that group of programs.

“I feel like it’s really all about the details, like the little things, not the super big gestures,” Brown-Shuler said. “Communication is key and all the little small things that no one sees like me interacting with a player or interacting with the coach and asking the players how the head coach ought to be, just making sure the (guys that are) recruiting me (are) also the same (guys) that’s gonna be your position coach and head coach and make sure that that doesn’t change.”
