Jordan Burks is the No. 89 player in On3s 2023 rankings. The 6-foot-9 forward is a captivating talent with his frame, athleticism, and ability to shoot from deep.

Through 12 July games with the Atlanta Xpress on the Under Armour UAA Circuit, Burks averaged 12.0-points, 5.4-rebounds, and 1.3-steals per game. The four-star shot 52 percent from the field and 42 percent from three.

On July 31, On3’s Joe Tipton announced Jordan Burks would be committing on August 11. His final five schools are Mississippi State, Missouri, Eastern Michigan, Texas Tech, and Ole Miss. Burks also included the G-League Ignite program as an option.

With the 11th rapidly approaching, let’s go through the intel and rank the contenders.

1. Ole Miss

Ole Miss has been in the lead for this one for quite some time. Assistant coach Brock Morris built an early relationship with Burks, and the program was able to check all the boxes on his official visit.

They took him through their plans of development for Burks and how he would look in their system, but the most significant piece was how natural he felt around the players.

Ole Miss’s chances: 95 percent

2. Texas Tech

This relationship came from the newest Texas Tech assistant Al Pinkins. Pinkins was Burks’ first high major offer when he was the Associate Head Coach at Florida

Burks is also friends with 2023 Texas Tech commit Jason Jackson, and Jackson has been recruiting Burks to join him in Lubbock.

Texas Tech’s chances: 3 percent

3. Mississippi State

The Mississippi State staff did a good job of showing Burks love through the process. Especially through the live evaluation periods, they were at most of his games.

“They’ve been watching me every since coach (Chris) Jans got the job,” Burks said. “They have been on me, and I mess with that.”

Mississippi State’s chances: 2 percent

Final intel

Brock Morris really dug in on this one and established a relationship early. Jordan Burks’s comfort level with the coaches is evident when talking with him. This was huge in landing the four-star.

“The staff felt like family on my visit; coach Brock (Morris) has been great,” Burks said.

On his visit, the only official visit he took, sources say Ole Miss did a great job answering any questions about the style of play and their plans for Burks’ development.

Intel suggests that Burks got a feel for head coach Kermit Davis and Davis for Burks on the visit. The two had an understanding of one another.

Sources close to the situation say this one has been done for a while.

In Burks words

“The playing style and relationship with the coaches were great. They play fast-paced, getting up and down but also having sets when the game has to slow down. That’s all they talk about, cutting the floor, cut the floor.

“The staff felt like family on my visit. Coach Brock (Morris) has been great. The players were great, and that really touched me on my visit. I like coach KD’s (Kermit Davis) playing style and their plans for me.”
