RJ Jones is the No. 79 ranked player in the 2023 On3 Consensus. The 6-foot-2 guard showcased his shot-making ability at Nike’s Peach Jam, averaging 13.8-points per game while knocking down 16 total threes in the six games.

The Denton, Texas native recently announced he would transfer to Mt. Pleasant (UT) Wasatch Academy for his senior season.

Six days ago, the four-star dropped a top six schools, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Kansas State, Boise State, and Colorado. Jones has officially visited Cal, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, TCU, and Kansas State

Let’s rank the contenders.

1. Kansas State

Jerome Tang got Jones’ last visit. He was baseline and often times with multiple coaches for most of Jones’ games in July.

Tang is flipping the roster for his players, which means there is an opportunity for early playing time.

Kansas State’s chances: 90-percent

2. Oklahoma

Jones took an official visit to see Porter Moser and crew on July 29. It was a later visit, and Oklahoma made it clear they needed a shotmaker and a combo-type guard.

Early playing time is a possibility with the Oklahoma roster as well.

Oklahoma’s chances: 5-percent

3. Texas A&M

Buzz Williams’ staff did an excellent job of pursuing Jones, letting him know he was a priority. They are the final in-state school in the mix as well.

Texas A&M’s chances: 5-percent

Final intel

Jerome Tang had a relationship with RJ Jones and his family from his time at Baylor. Kansas State staff did an excellent job at letting Jones know he was a priority and laying out their plans for how they will play Jones.

On the official visit, sources say the staff was able to answer any questions Jones may have had during the visit.
