One of the quietest recruitments we’ve seen in this class is Marietta (Ga.) Wheeler five-star point guard Isaiah Collier.

The 6-foot-2 class of 2023 floor general is down to four schools: Cincinnati, Michigan, UCLA, and USC. However, it’s a three-horse race between the Bearcats, Wolverines, and Trojans. The Bruins are now on the outside looking in.

Earlier this week, Collier tweeted “Commitment date coming soon”. I followed up with the No. 1 point guard in the country to learn about his timetable and to get a run-down of the four programs remaining in his recruitment.

Isaiah Collier talks finalists

Cincinnati: “Family environment for sure. I’ve definitely built a great relationship with the coaches there and I’ve definitely learned the system. The fans are top tier so it’s definitely a blessing and definitely a great experience with them.”

USC: “Same thing. I’ve built a great relationship with the coaches. It’s a great school, a great campus. I definitely loved everything about USC.”

Michigan: “Same thing. I’ve built a great relationship with all the coaches. We’ve went through film, talked about development, and all the things like that. It’s definitely been a great experience with them three schools.”

UCLA: “We’ve built a good relationship but I haven’t been in contact with them as much.”

Timeline?

Collier says he is looking to make a commitment in November but doesn’t have an exact date in mind yet. He also mentioned that each of the head coaches in his final group have paid him a visit since the NCAA live period began.

What’s it going to come down to as Collier ultimately makes a decision?

“The playing style, development, and definitely a good education. In my household, my mom wants me to get a great education so definitely school first, and then basketball. I just want to play in a great environment with great coaches and great teammates.”

Scouting Summary

Collier has a very strong frame. Plays with great balance and is able to take a bump when attacking the basket. Surveys the floor well, head up with a great pace. Never gets rushed. Excellent passer in the half-court. Plays well out of the pick and roll makes excellent reads and his passes are on target and on time. The jump shot is streaky at all levels. Puts a relentless attack on the paint and the basket. He has the quick-twitch and the toughness to be a good on-ball defender, quick hands. Collier elevates the play of those around him. He is vocal on the floor, calls his team in for huddles, and speaks up. The jump shot remains a question (he did shoot 44.8% on 29 EYBL attempts this summer), but his ability to run a team is advanced.
