Trevor Lawrence and Arch Manning share a ton in common, even if one is entering his second season in the NFL and the other will be a senior in high school. Both were On3 Consensus Five-Star Plus+ quarterbacks, the No. 1 prospect in their respective classes, and entering programs with lofty expectations.

Manning recently made his commitment to Texas sending shock waves through the college football world. Lawrence decided to offer up some advice for the youngster, first saying blocking all of the outside noise was important. The Jacksonville quarterback knows plenty of criticisms will come Manning’s way and hopes he can listen to people who truly matter.

“I’m sure he has a lot of good people in his corner that can help him, but I’d say it’s really important to learn how to manage expectations,” Lawrence said. “It’s important to block out all the noise. The only voices you should listen to are your internal expectations of yourself, your teammates, your coaches, and family. You should try to block everything else out.”

A long list of successful football players is in the Manning circle. His uncles are both destined to be NFL Hall of Famers (with Peyton already in), while his grandfather Archie in there as well. His father, Cooper, is arguably the most respected of the group, being the oldest son of the trio. If anyone has experience managing intense college expectations, it’s the Manning family.

Lawrence says Arch Manning will need to “start over”

Manning may be the top quarterback in the country but when he arrives in Austin, he will be just like everyone else fighting for a spot. Lawrence says the soon-to-be high school senior must be ready to “start over” once he gets to college but still keep the confidence in himself.

“There’s going to be a lot on his plate, but you have to show up ready to learn and grow,” Lawrence said. “You’re not going to be perfect from Day 1, but he is really talented and has a lot of abilities. He needs to carry that confidence over while knowing you do have to start over. You have to do that at every level. It’s something I’m going through right now in the NFL. So you need to realize you’re there for a reason, but you have to earn that respect from your teammates. He seems like a quarterback who’ll do great.”

Texas has yet to name a starting quarterback for the upcoming 2022 season but whether it’s Hudson Card or Quinn Ewers, the thought is Manning will sit for one year before becoming the guy. Lawrence eventually grew into the starting role as a true freshman, taking over for Kelly Bryant and winning the national championship.

Although he has one more season at Isidore Newman, Manning will continue to gradually build hype before heading to Texas. Lawrence is just trying to make sure everything can be contained and Manning showcases the best of his abilities. Advice from a player such as Lawrence can be crucial for Manning, especially since it’s someone he looks up to.
