The Penn State cornerback room was a big part of the Nittany Lions’ defensive attack this year, led by Kalen King. However, there’s plenty more talent in that room, and head coach James Franklin made quite a claim about that this week.

“We’d make an argument we’ve got two of the best, if not three of the best corners in the country, four of the best corners in the country,” Franklin said.

King led the Big Ten during the regular season with 18 pass break ups while Joey Porter Jr. came in tied for third with 11 despite missing time with appendicitis. Franklin spoke highly of both players following Penn State’s season-ending victory over Michigan State and said their confidence helped them become difference-makers.

“Kalen has played consistent really all year long,” Franklin said. “Joey was playing as good as any corner in the country and then, obviously, as you guys know, he had a medical situation, which we announced what it was. I’m proud of the fact that he was able to come back. I wouldn’t say he was full go today, but he was good enough to play and was cleared by the doctors and he wanted to get out there and help his team. I think that speaks volumes about who he is and how much he loves the game. I’m proud of those guys.

“And, obviously … when Kalen’s in there and Joey’s playing the way he’s capable of playing when he’s healthy, it allows us to do a lot of things defensively. … Really, really talented duo on the perimeter for us, which, obviously, when you have that type of confidence — and not just him. I could throw a bunch of guys in there when you talk about PBUs, interceptions and things like that. They’ve done a really good job all year long. On top of that, they’re willing tacklers, and that’s not always the case at that position.”

Penn State offensive lineman Olu Fashanu announces decision to return to Penn State for 2023 season

Penn State offensive lineman Olumuyiwa “Olu” Fashanu has made his decision about whether or not to enter the 2023 NFL Draft. He is returning to Penn State, according to Pete Thamel.

Fashanu is one of the top offensive linemen in the country this year, starting on the Nittany Lions front all season. He’s been a key part of Penn State’s potent rushing offense, led by freshman standout Nick Singleton, that ranked in the top five in the Big Ten this year.
