Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett has a new gig. But it’s not on the sidelines.

Garrett is heading to NBC as an analyst for the USFL, according to ESPN’s Field Yates. He spent the last two years as the offensive coordinator for the New York Giants, and was fired in November 2021. In fact, his name came up as a potential candidate for the Duke head coaching job before the Blue Devils hired Mike Elko.

Garrett coached the Cowboys from 2010-19 and took them to the playoffs three times. He left Dallas with an 85-67 record, including a 2-3 record in the postseason. The Cowboys didn’t renew his contract after the 2019 season, and that’s when he headed to the Giants to take over as offensive coordinator.

The USFL is gearing up to kick off its 12-week season April 16. With NBC, Garrett will work alongside former NFL players Michael Robinson and Cam Jordan.

Some big names join the USFL

As the USFL gets ready to launch, some recognizable names became a part of the league over the last few months.

Notably, former St. Louis and Los Angeles Rams head coach Jeff Fisher is the head coach of the Michigan Panthers, one of the eight teams to make up the league. He hasn’t been a head since 2016 and most recently served as an advisor at Tennessee State in 2021.

Fisher’s first pick was a hot name in Big Ten circles a few years ago. Former Michigan star Shea Patterson was the No. 1 overall pick in February’s draft. He played at Michigan from 2018-19 after starting his career at Ole Miss, but never made it higher than the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad in 2020.

There’s also some SEC power in the league, including former Alabama running back BJ Emmons and former Georgia defensive end Davin Bellamy, who play for the Tampa Bay Bandits and New Orleans Breakers, respectively.
