5-star SG Jasper Johnson names final 5 schools
Jasper Johnson, a five-star shooting guard in the 2025 class, has narrowed his list of schools down to five: Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisville, and North Carolina.
The 6-foot-4 Lexington, KY native has taken official visits to Alabama, Kentucky, and North Carolina.
Johnson does not have any other visits currently scheduled and does not have a commitment date.
According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Johnson is the No. 11 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle. He’s also the No. 4 shooting guard prospect. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
The rising senior recently announced he would be transferring to Overtime Elite in Atlanta, GA for his final year of high school.
Johnson breaks down programs in the mix
In previous interview with On3, Jasper Johnson gave his thoughts on each of the schools recruiting in the mix for his talents.
Kentucky: “I like them (the staff). I got to meet them last month I’m pretty sure. Got to meet them and talk to them for a few minutes. Got to watch them practice and heard (Pope’s) message. Just got to see them play so just building that relationship. I know its his first year at Kentucky, but I feel like he will do a good job with the team he has this year.”
Alabama: “They produce every year. They produce great guards and their guard play is really good and they just had a Final Four run. Coach (Nate) Oats does a really good job up there so I’ve been staying in contact with them. A couple of my teammates from last year (Derrion Reid, Labaron Philon) are there now as freshman and they’re going to have a good year so I’m going to be watching them for sure.”

North Carolina: “Coach (Hubert) Davis tells me if he could get me now as a reclass, or stay (in 2025), he wants me whenever. He definitely says he wants me to play for him next year or whenever I want to. So him giving me that message and then coach (Sean) May is texting me and my parents every single day. Just building that relationship and that bond.”
*Jasper later says he plans to remain in the 2025 class.
Arkansas: “It’s really the same message (now that Calipari is at Arkansas). Big time guards play for Cal, that’s what he always says. He asked me the question, ‘What do you want to be with this?’ and I was like ‘a lottery pick’ and he was like ‘that’s it?’ so I mean him saying he really wants me and what he can see for my future is a good thing.”
Louisville: “Knowing I’m from Lexington, they want me to make that move to the other side. (The coaches) came to visit my parents at home so they talked to them for about 2-3 hours. (Kelsey) called me and gave me a speech of what he wants me to do. And his vision for me if I was to come there. We’ve just been keeping in contact.”
Scouting Report
“Jasper Johnson is a lefty with nice size and good length. What he does is shoot the ball. Johnson has deep range that extends well beyond the three-point arc, and he is at he’s best in catch and shoot or with one/two dribble pull-ups. Would like to see Johnson tighten the handle, can struggle once he is in the paint, especially going right. Lacks blow by burst off the bounce at this point but he is a good straight line athlete with a head of steam.. Has a crafty lay-up package around the basket, especially with the left hand. Solid explosion with a running start. Can get beat off the bounce in the open floor on defense. Will use both hands to dribble, but most of the time it comes back to his left hand. The range extends well beyond the three-point arc. Plays with a lot of confidence. Can get you into sets. Dad played football at Kentucky and NFL.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
