Jaylen Martin, a 6-foot-6 shooting guard out of Tallahassee (Fla.) Florida State Univ. School tells On3 he is down to seven schools – Florida, Georgetown, Ole Miss, Georgia, Cincinnati, Wake Forest, and Texas Tech.

Martin has taken an unofficial visit to Florida, so far. He has also set three official visits for the month of September. Martin will be at Ole Miss on Sept. 9-12, Wake Forest on Sept. 16-19, and Cincinnati on Sept. 23-26. He is still in the process of setting up his final two official visits.

Jaylen Martin discusses each school with On3.

Martin on Florida

“I have a good relationship with Coach (Al) Pinkins, that’s who’s recruiting me,” Martin said. “I went on a visit there in June and I liked it up there, it was pretty nice.”

Martin on Georgetown

“I’ve been in contact with them for probably the longest on the list,” Martin said. “Coach (Patrick) Ewing actually played with my high school coach, Charlie Ward. So we had a zoom call and everything and they all chopped it up together. He was just telling me how you played for one NBA player… so I should play for another one. And he said how they have similar coaching styles. Also how I’d be a good fit in their system.”

Martin on Ole Miss

“It’s in the SEC conference,” Martin said. “I won’t say it’s the new wave of basketball but a lot of talent is coming out of the SEC. They have some tough competition. The thing they push out to me the most is… I’d be able to come in and play and they would help me develop.”

Martin on Georgia

“I just started talking to their coaches,” Martin said. “They said they play fast in transition, so they say I fit well into their system.”

Martin on Cincinnati

“Coach (Chad) Dollar was actually a coach at Georgia before,” Martin said. “Ever since he moved to Cincinnati, he’s been recruiting me…for a long time now. I really have a good relationship with him. He says Cincinnati would be a good place for me to rock out and just play my game.”

Martin on Wake Forest

“They’re my most recent offer,” Martin said. “They say they play their freshman. When I come in, I won’t have to sit behind other players. They say I’ll be able to come in and play right away.”

Martin on Texas Tech

“Coach (Corey) Williams is originally from my city, Tallahassee,” Martin said. “He was saying that they like big guards, who can rebound and be able to play in transition. He was saying I’d fit very well because they like transition and they like to go. That’s pretty much my game, I like to play in transition.”
