Out of everyone who has been able to put the Nick Saban-Jimbo Fisher feud into perspective, some of their assistant coaches have done the best job. Especially when working for both head coaches as Jeremy Pruitt has.

Pruitt worked as defensive coordinator under both Saban and Fisher, winning a national championship at each stop. He was there when Florida State won the 2013 BCS title and during Alabama‘s 2017 triumph. In a recent interview, Pruitt gave his thoughts on his former bosses feuding with one another, saying he thinks the two have talked since then.

“I know Jimbo and Nick have a relationship and I’m sure they have probably talked since then,” Pruitt said. “I don’t know a whole lot about the ins and outs of either one of them’s recruiting class because I was not in college football this year. But one thing that I would say — it would be interesting who plays Alabama and who plays Texas A&M after they play each other. Because I’m going to say there’s going to be some pads popping in that game.”

Diving into Pruitt’s theory about the two team’s next opponents — Alabama will have little time to reset as an important rivalry game with Tennessee will follow Texas A&M. While it’s true Saban has never lost to the Volunteers, Rocky Top will be bouncing when the Crimson Tide are in town this season. The Third Saturday in October will have a different feeling thanks to the momentum head coach Josh Heupel has built.

As for the Aggies, they will have the chance to reset with a bye week. The Alabama game will be the end of a brutal four-week stretch which also includes Arkansas, Miami, and Mississippi State. Texas A&M would be back on the field against South Carolina on Oct. 22.

Even before Saban and Fisher began to feud with one another, the Alabama-Texas A&M matchup was going to have some intensity to it. Last season saw the Aggies upset the No. 1 team in the country in College Station. Saban and his squad were going to be ready to go, wanting revenge no matter what.

Now, both teams will be playing for their head coach, trying to squash the beef in a positive manner for the programs. Jeremy Pruitt is correct, there will be some “pads popping” when Alabama and Texas A&M meet in Tuscaloosa on Oct. 8.
