Joe Burrow gives epic quote on controversy against Ravens
Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow received some flack for continuing to pass with the game out of hand Sunday against the Ravens. But the second-year pro wasn’t having it, firing back at critics with a strong response.
“This is the NFL,” Burrow said. “This isn’t peewee, this isn’t high school where you go out and run up the score. You play until the final whistle. I don’t care what the score is.
“They did it to us last year. No sympathy from me.”
Cincinnati handed Baltimore a 41-21 loss Sunday as Burrow threw for four touchdowns. His final throw for a score came with more than 10 minutes remaining on a 10-yard connection with Tee Higgins. However, the quarterback continued to pass even on the final drive with the game already in hand.
With two minutes remaining, he launched a deep pass to Joe Mixon that went for 52 yards. That helped him set the Bengals franchise record with 525 yards passing, a mark that ranks fourth in NFL history. After completing the throw, Burrow simply turned around and shrugged.
It was later reported that Cincinnati coach Zac Taylor told Burrow not to throw on that play, but the quarterback did so anyway.

With the victory, the Bengals earned a sweep of Baltimore in the regular season. They also won in dominating fashion the first time around, with a final score of 41-17.
For Joe Burrow, the wins serve as revenge after the Ravens swept Cincinnati in 2020. Both of those games were blowouts as well, with Baltimore handing them a 38-3 loss in the last game of the regular season.
Clearly, that contest was fresh on the quarterback’s mind this past Sunday.
The Bengals improved to 9-6 with the victory and currently sit at first place in the AFC North. They run into the red-hot Kansas City Chiefs, winners of eight straight, in Week 17.
