Cincinnati mayor Aftab Pureval wants Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow to take a paternity test to prove if he’s the father of Patrick Mahomes.

All jokes aside, Mayor Pureval went the extra step in trash talking ahead of Sunday’s AFC Championship Game. Burrow is 3-0 against Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. That included a win over the Chiefs in last year’s AFC title game.

Mayor Pureval actually signed an official proclamation and released a video of him reading it out loud.

“Whereas, Joseph Lee Burrow, who’s 3-0 against Mahomes, has been asked by officials to take a paternity test confirming whether or not he’s his father,” reads one of the stipulations for the proclamation.

The other stipulations? That the Bengals are headed to “Burrowhead Stadium” to play the AFC championship game. That the Bengals won said AFC championship game in 2022. That the Bengals have, all season, “been on a path of destiny, fighting it out to overcome anyone who stands between them [and] a Super Bowl win.” And that Kansas City is named after its neighboring state, “which is, you know, just kind of weird.”

Joe Burrow owns Patrick Mahomes head to head

Calling Burrow the father of Mahomes is a little much, but fans can certainly understand that part of trash talking. Should the Bengals defeat the Chiefs Sunday, Burrow will improve the head-to-head record to 4-0.

Not only that, Burrow and the Bengals can reach their second straight Super Bowl. Mahomes and the Chiefs did that during the 2019 and ‘20 seasons.

It’s a clear race to the top of the AFC quarterback pecking order between the two elite signal callers.

This year, Burrow tossed 4,475 yards, 35 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a 68.3% completion percentage. Mahomes had the edge on the stat sheet with 5,250 yards, 41 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a 67.1% completion percentage.

The winner of the AFC title game takes on the Philadelphia Eagles or San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVII.

Perhaps Burrow is Mahomes’ father if the Bengals star gets another win. Or Mahomes can put those “theories” to rest for the time being.
