Jonathan Powell is the No. 92 player in the 2024 On3 Consensus. The 6-foot-6 shooting guard burst on the scene in April, playing with the Wildcats Select program on the Adidas 3SSB 16u Circuit when he went for a circuit-high 40 points.

“I’m a wing who can catch and shoot or put it on the floor,” Powell told On3, “I can sit down on defense and guard multiple positions; I got good length and can rebound. I like Devin Booker a lot, his midrange game, catch and shoot, ability to score off the dribble.”

On3 caught up with Jonathan Powell after a recent live viewing to talk about his recruitment.

Powell talks recruitment

“I have not been on any official visits yet, and I don’t have any set yet,” Powell said. “I’ve been on unofficial visits to Notre Dame, Indiana, Cincinnati, Xavier, Ohio State, Illinois, and Michigan State.”

Notre Dame: “They have a great tradition there. I saw on my visit they work hard and they have great facilities. Their program is well run; it’s nice out there.”

Indiana: “They like I’m able to put the ball on the group well for a guy my size, and I rebound it. They like that I can shoot it really well, kinda just do everything from the guard position.”

Michigan State: “I think I fit in really well there. I really like how Tom Izzo coaches and runs his offense. The history behind Izzo is obvious, and I can see myself being able to play at that school.”

Cincinnati: “It was cool. It was my first time being at the Cincinnati campus. They have a great weight room and wonderful facilities. Coach (Wes) Miller is a good coach, and they stay in contact.”

Ohio State: “Columbus is basically, like low-key, my hometown since I’m from Ohio. It was really cool to go to Ohio State, the campus, the facilities, all the coaches, and the love from the fans. I bet it would feel amazing to be in a jersey.

Illinois: “The campus is pretty far from me, but it is beautiful. The program, how it’s run. Coach (Chester) Frazier is my guy over there; he was my first big offer; it’s crazy they were showing me interest that early.”

“Of the schools who haven’t offered yet, I hear a good bit from Virginia and Virginia Tech,” Powell said. “Kansas contacts a little bit.”

In Powell’s words

“I really don’t have a time frame right now,” Powell said. “I might look to take some visits after the season, during my little break before AAU. We’ll probably wait until the middle or the end of the summer to make a list.

“I’ll be looking for a school that can develop me and get me ready for the next level. When I’m there, I’ll be looking at the school that is showing me and my family the most love. I want to walk away from the school, thinking it’s my home away from home.”
