Jordan Scott has been one of the breakout players of this Spring. The 6-foot-5 wing is averaging 19.8 points and shooting 53.9 percent from the field for the Virginia Elite program on the Under Armour Rise 16u Circuit.

Scott was named Northern Region Player of the Year and Concorde District Player of the Year as a sophomore this season at South Lakes High (VA).

“I would describe myself as a versatile player,” Scott told On3. “I don’t think I do any one thing better than the other; I do a little bit of everything. Growing up, I liked watching Candace Parker a lot due to the fact of how involved my mom is with the WNBA, so I spent a lot of time watching them. I also like watching Anthony Davis, especially defensively. Being a presence there and being able to play back to the basket and face up on the perimeter are things I take away from them.”

On3 caught up with Jordan Scott recently to talk about his recruitment.

Scott talks recruiting

“I’d say we hear the most from Michigan State, Virginia, and Virginia Tech, right now,” Scott said.

Michigan State: “Their message to me was that they wanted to win and that they like team players with good attitudes. I know about how many great NBA players have come from Michigan State. They developed there and have had amazing careers after college. My favorite part was meeting Coach (Tom) Izzo and sitting in his office. It was cool, just of how historic he is.”

Virginia: “On my visit there, I talked with Coach Tony (Bennett) and learned about how he not only develops basketball players but young men as well. I like how they are like a family at UVA. My favorite part was seeing the campus and the campus tour with Coach (Jason) Williford.

Virginia Tech: “The assistant coach there, JD Byers, is the one recruiting me. He was at recruiting me from VCU and now to Virginia Tech. I haven’t really been able to watch them play, but I do have some people that I played high school basketball with that go there. Coach JD was saying how he was going to be recruiting me hard and wanted me on campus. We’ve kept in regular contact with him ever since my visit to VCU.”

I’ve visited George Mason and VCU, too,” Scott said. “They were both with the previous staffs.”

VCU: “I really like the campus of VCU and got to watch their practice.”

George Mason: “I got to watch them practice also and was with some other recruits there as well.”

In his words

My mom, Christy (Winters) Scott, played at Maryland, and my dad, Jerome Scott, played at Miami,” Scott said. “My sister, Brianna Scott, currently plays at Georgetown.

“I’m looking for a place where I can be comfortable spending the next four years and a place where I can grow as a player and a person. I’ll look for a great coaching staff and players that want to win. I think I’m good for any style of play, I’ve been comfortable in many play styles throughout my basketball career.”
