Loganville (Ga.) Grayson High School sophomore Joseph Stone’s recruitment has been like a bowling ball all summer.

The multi-positional dynamo has picked offers from Arkansas, Boston College, Charlotte, Indiana, Kentucky, Memphis, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Tennessee and Utah since the last day of May.

He had already been offered by Akron, Georgia, Florida State and Minnesota before the flurry in the summer.

Stone insists that moving into his sophomore, he’ll keep things going slow. He plans to have fun with the process.

“I’m just taking it slow right now, it’s really all new to me,” Stone said. “I’m just trying to be strategic with it and still have fun at the same time.”

Playing at Grayson means playing alongside a long list of good football players with offers to consider, visits to take and decisions to make.

The program’s head coach, Adam Carter, doesn’t allow the focus to be on the wrong things at the wrong times. Recruiting will take a backseat once games start. That is the standard Stone has been taught. He respects it about his head coach.

“I’m thankful for coach (Adam) Carter,” Stone said. “He stressed being consistent. He’s always on time with everything. Being there for my team is important. You can’t miss practice. There are really no excuses. If the man next to you can do it, then you can do it. Even though I’m getting a lot of offers, I’m still held accountable.”

Stone admits he’s never had any college football team alliances. He’s from Georgia. His mom is an Ohio State fan. His dad is from Kentucky and supports the Kentucky Wildcats and Louisville.

Stone is an enjoyer of football and the athletes that play the sport well.

Jabrill Peppers was a player that caught Stone’s attention as a young football player. He watched Peppers star both ways for the Wolverines between 2014-2016.

Stone is big on knowing the background of any team recruiting him. He knows his versatility will be a key to his recruitment. He’s been offered as a receiver and defensive back. He can also play running back.

Fit is important to Stone.

“As soon as I start talking to a coach, I start doing research,” Stone said. “I start watching film and watching my position. When I get there it’s all about how they’re going to play me. I just try and study their culture a little bit.”

Stone will make a few trips to see a few games this fall. He hasn’t nailed them down yet.

“Right now, I’m putting my team first,” Stone said. “Whenever I can go to a game or something, then I’ll handle that, but the season is coming up now. We’ve got to get focused on the prize.”
