Tennessee point guard Kennedy Chandler has gone through the NBA Draft process with several workouts and interviews in recent weeks ahead of his big night on Thursday. The projected first round pick recently worked out for his hometown franchise and revealed some interesting details about the experience.

Kennedy Chandler worked out for the Memphis Grizzlies this week ahead of the NBA Draft, then spoke with local radio show Jason & John on Wednesday afternoon. He told the station that it was a solo workout, his only such experience during the draft process.

The Grizzlies have been named as a potential landing spot for Chandler in multiple mock drafts over recent months, given his familiarity with the city and the position of need for the team. Current backup point guard Tyus Jones, who played behind Ja Morant for multiple seasons, is expected to entertain offers from other teams in free agency with the possibility of a starting role on the table.

More about Kennedy Chandler

Kennedy Chandler grew up in Memphis, Tennessee before moving to Sunrise Christian in Kansas to finish his high school career. The 2021 five-star prospect then committed to Tennessee where he starred for Rick Barnes in one season.

Over 34 games, he started each one while averaging 13.9 points and 4.7 assists on his way to the All-SEC team and SEC Tournament MVP award. At 6-foot tall, he also averaged 3.2 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game while shooting 46.4 percent from the field and 38.3 percent from the 3-point line.

During the offseason and breaks, Chandler has regularly worked out with Grizzlies star Ja Morant. The team’s starter at the point guard position has voiced his support for the young prospect on multiple occasions via social media as well.

Chandler brings a long history of pedigree, coming to Tennessee as the No. 13 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus and the No. 3 point guard in the 2021 class. He also ranked No. 1 in the state of Kansas and would have ranked No. 1 in the state of Tennessee.
