Kyle Hamilton reveals initial conversation with Ravens teammate Ronnie Stanley
Former Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton was once viewed as a possible top five pick, but he instead fell to the Baltimore Ravens at No. 14 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. Since coming to Baltimore, Hamilton has already begun learning from the veterans on the roster.
In his introductory press conference, Hamilton explained his relationship with Ravens offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley. Stanley, who also played at Notre Dame, was the Ravens’ No. 6 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Hamilton said that Stanley gave him advice on the start of his NFL career, and that was something that Hamilton appreciated hearing.
“We actually, we’re training at the same facility this spring,” Hamilton said. “So got to meet him for the first time, really get to know him. He’s a great dude, obviously he was rehabbing his foot or ankle, not sure which one it was. But he was just letting me know it’s work, it’s hard work. I knew that, but he was just emphasizing that it’s going to take work. Nothing’s going to be handed to you. And I appreciate the honesty.
“I’m excited to come in and just gain respect at this level. That’s a really important thing, just getting older guys’ respect, coaches’ respect, even guys within your classes respect and I’m excited to do that.”
Hamilton thinks the Ravens are a ‘perfect situation’ for him
Even though Hamilton fell a little bit on draft night, he is happy that he landed with the Ravens. He views Baltimore as a “perfect situation” for him to start his NFL career.
“That’s kind of what I was just saying, looking back on it,” said Hamilton. “It may feel or seem like a big deal now, but I think I fell into the perfect place, perfect situation. And honestly, it’s a blessing and I’m just excited to be here.”
As a junior in 2021, Hamilton totaled 34 tackles and three interceptions. In his three-year collegiate career, he had 138 tackles and eight interceptions.
With the Ravens, Hamilton joins a talented defense that already contains quite a few good players in the secondary. But Ravens head coach John Harbaugh is excited about adding Hamilton, and believes he will add to a versatile all-around defense next season.
