Lathan Sommerville is the No. 138 player in the 2024 On3 Consensus. The 6-foot-8 post played up in age this summer with the Brad Beal Elite program on Nike’s EYBL 17u Circuit. Sommerville finished in the top five of the team in points, rebounds, and blocked shots.

“I’m a mid and low post scorer,” Sommerville told On3. “I can also stretch the floor a little bit, and I’m a good passer. I take a lot of pride in my rebounding too. I’ll watch a lot of (Nikola) Jokic with his passing and his reads, also (Joel) Embiid and his footwork and scoring.”

On3 caught up with Lathan Sommerville after a recent live viewing to discuss this recruitment.

Sommerville talks visits

“I haven’t taken any official visits yet,” Sommerville said. “I’m working to take visits to Villanova, Missouri, and Rutgers soon.”

Villanova: “I like how they get the ball to their bigs and how they let their bigs play. They run their offense through the bigs, and I like how they play as a team and how they compete.”

Missouri: “I love Missouri; they get their ball to their bigs. They play hard, they compete as a team, and they never back down from any competition. Coach (Dennis) Gates is always telling me to rebound. He tells me to crash the boards and don’t let the ball just come to you and to always compete.”

Rutgers: “I really like Rutgers. I talk to them pretty regularly; they like how I play. They tell me to play my game, rebound, play hard, let the game to you, and they will always have a spot for me If I want to go there.”

I’m talking with Gonzaga, Memphis, and a few other schools too who haven’t offered,” Sommerville said. “I want to look at visiting Memphis soon.”

In Sommerville’s words

“I want to go to a program that wants to win and compete at a high level,” Sommerville said. “A school who runs an offense that gets the ball to the bigs and lets them play their game. I want to put myself in the best position to help my team win. And that goes hand-in-hand with being able to play my play style and how I’m comfortable playing. So, I’ll look at the playstyle and winning.”
