Phenix City (Ala.) Central four-star wide receiver Karmello English decommitted from Auburn on Aug. 14. He was previously the highest-ranked member of the Tigers’ 2023 recruiting class before backing off his nearly six-week pledge to head coach Bryan Harsin and his staff.

It can now be assumed that he is considering Penn State for his college football career. Minutes after the No. 22 Nittany Lions beat Auburn 41-12, he tweeted #WeAre, part of a cheer for the Nittany Lions and their fans.

Penn State is one of the programs seeking the services of the 5-foot-11, 182 pound wideout. Other contenders for his pledge include Kentucky and Michigan, who both received official visits from the wideout in June.

If English ends up choosing the Nittany Lions, it would be a huge recruiting win for the program. He would not only be the highest-ranked receiver in Penn State’s 2023 class, but also the group’s seventh top-150 prospect.

English is the No. 150 overall prospect and No. 23 wide receiver in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 14 player in Alabama.

His decommitment from Auburn was a large blow to the Tigers’ 2023 class. English’ decision dropped Auburn from No. 36 to No. 51 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings. However, the Tigers rose back to No. 36 following a pledge from Thomasville (Ga.) Thomas County Central four-star wide receiver Adam Hopkins.

English’s recruitment may still have weeks or months to go. However, it is clear that he is very interested in Penn State.
