The Los Angeles Chargers offense looked explosive as usual in Sunday’s opening win over Washington.

Justin Herbert and his arsenal of playmakers put up 427 yards of total offense, with everyone getting a piece of the action. Former Clemson wideout Mike Williams hauled in 8 passes for 82 yards and a touchdown.

On Sunday, the Chargers will play Washington’s NFC East foe, in a game featuring two high-powered offenses.

Williams made a point to throw some shade at the Dallas Cowboys secondary, a unit that allowed 431 yards with 379 coming from Tom Brady and the Bucs passing attack.

“Tampa Bay receivers looked like they was having some fun out there,” The Los Angeles Chargers receiver said when asked about what he saw from the Dallas defense, via SI.com.

The Chargers offense should be brimming with confidence. They were able to do what they wanted against a Washington defensive unit that ranked No. 1 against the pass in 2020 and added shutdown corner William Jackson in the off-season. Former Pro-Bowl safety Landon Collins was also back in the lineup.

Los Angeles Chargers vs. Cowboys matchup

Even in a loss, the Cowboys’ strong performance in last week’s 31-29 thriller was even more impressive because the offense lacked All-Pro right guard Zack Martin.

Dallas announced Martin is off the COVID-19 list and will be ready to play on Sunday. The importance of Martin to offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and the success of the unit as a whole can’t be understated.

“Zack is the best player on our offense,” Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott told the media a few weeks before the season opener after learning Martin wouldn’t be playing against Tampa. “Most runs come back behind him.”

That is a heck of a compliment, but Elliott’s transparency is also telling.

If most of the Cowboys’ running scheme fits around Martin leading the calls, fans should be thrilled heading into the Los Angeles Chargers matchup in particular.

Why, exactly?

If Martin’s return morphs the sub-par rushing attack from last week into a formidable one, this is the matchup where it could truly make the difference in winning or losing.

We saw Prescott go toe to toe with Tom Brady in arguably the best performance of the Cowboys’ quarterback’s career. Still, it wasn’t enough.

It’s more than evident Herbert, Williams, Keenan Allen and the Chargers offensive personnel will put up points.

The key to victory from a Cowboys perspective is slowing the game down through the rushing attack, assuming the addition of Martin will aid Elliot and company.

Most oddsmakers peg the Chargers as roughly three-point favorites, which factors in the Cowboys’ long trip out West. On paper, these teams are similar. Expect a high-scoring nail-biter that could easily be won or lost in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
