LSU, USC to kick off 2024 season at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on ABC

In 2021, it was announced LSU and USC would participate in the 2024 Vegas Kickoff Classic. Now, that game has a date, time and TV assignment.

The programs announced the high-profile matchup will kick off Sept. 1, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC from Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders. News of the game first broke in August 2021 — and a lot has changed since that announcement.

Brian Kelly is now getting ready for his second season at LSU after arriving from Notre Dame and is looking to build off a huge debut campaign. The Tigers finished 10-4, won the SEC West and beat Purdue in a Citrus Bowl blowout.

At USC, Lincoln Riley is also preparing for his second year at the helm following an 11-3 overall record in 2022, just missing out on a College Football Playoff appearance. After losing to Utah in the Pac-12 Championship, the Trojans fell to Tulane in the Cotton Bowl, but return Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Caleb Williams for his junior season.

LSU and USC announced the matchup in August 2021 as the second installment of the Vegas Kickoff Classic. In 2021, BYU beat Arizona 24-16 in the first game.

“The opportunity to bring our team and the best fans in college football to Las Vegas is incredibly exciting,” LSU athletic director Scott Woodward said in the initial press release. “We cannot wait to compete on the field and fill Allegiant Stadium with Tiger fans from across the country.”

It will mark the second time in three years LSU will start its season on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. The Tigers started the 2022 season against Florida State in Atlanta — a 24-23 Seminoles victory.

“We are excited to announce this historic matchup that is sure to attract the sports world’s attention,” John Saccenti, Vegas Kickoff Classic and SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl executive director, said in a the announcement. “Las Vegas is known for its big events and the Trojans vs. the Tigers kicking off the 2024 college football season at Allegiant Stadium may be the biggest game the state of Nevada has ever seen.”
