Miami Hurricanes small forward Harlond Beverly will transfer to the Wichita State Shockers, per On3’s Joe Tipton.

Beverly was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2019, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He was also the 51st ranked player overall in that class.

This season, Harlond Beverly had 3.5 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game, all of which were below his career averages. Still, he played his part in Miami making a run to the Final Four this season, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

Miami head coach Jim Larranaga explained, “But even if he scored those, the defense on him was outstanding, and Wooga Poplar and Harlond Beverly deserve all the credit.”

Unfortunately, for Beverly and Miami, the Hurricanes ran into eventual national champion UConn, falling to the Huskies.

Harlond Beverly joins a Wichita State team in transition as it moves on to new head coach Paul Mills. Last season, under Isaac Brown, the Shockers went just 15-13. However, this should give Beverly a chance to step into a potentially starring role in the AAC.

The AAC itself is going through a transition too, with Houston, Cincinnati, and UCF moving to the Big 12. Meanwhile, the AAC is adding six different C-USA schools.

Jim Larranaga on why teammates cheered for Harlond Beverly

Harlond Beverly was an incredibly popular player at Miami and his teammates rooted for him to succeed. This was, in particular, because of the way he fought back to be on the court after being injured. Jim Larranaga explained why this was.

“I think his teammates are really cheering for him. They know what he went through last year, they know when this season started, not the games but practice, he was 15 or 20 pounds overweight. He was not in good shape. He had normally won all our races, now he was finishing last and it takes a while,” Larranaga said.

“When you’re out for 10 months, a year, you slowly come back. You don’t come back like quickly and his case, if you see in the month of January, he’s been far more productive and the players on the team, I mean really enjoy it when he comes into the game. He’s going to give us a great effort at both ends.”
